The bell had rung. Finally. After another boring, grueling day at school it was at last over. After his science teacher dismissed his junior academics class, he bolted for the door, backpack in tow.
He high-fived a few of his friends on the way, 2 of them in his gym class and the other in his tech class.
Grinning, he strolled over to his locker. "What was my code again...?"
It took him a minute to remember it and another 3 minutes to put his combination in. He crammed his math, science, and assigned book for reading in the narrow top locker. He flashed himself another smile from his magnet mirror before shoving the book back in his back, along with his ELA folder he had stowed in there in the morning.
He checked his phone. "God, why so many notifs?" He put his phone in his back pocket to look at later.
Sweet was walking down the hall, it had been a long day for her and she was quite tired. She yawned once she reached her locker, right as she opened the thing one of the football jocks had been walking by and saw her. She was an innocent little art student that looked very easy to pick on so he stopped and pushed her into her own locker, cramming her in it.
“Awww, poor little Sweet. What will she do when she gets locked in the locker for the weekend?”
He cackled and she squirmed inside the locker, every time she almost got out he would just push her back in and laugh more at her. Sweet was a bit of a nerd and was used to this so she just gave up. Letting him shove her in fully as he went to close her into the locker, she looked like she was about to cry in this moment, her sockets filled with watery tears.
Turning around, he saw one of the more... "confident" jocks on his campus shoving yet another smaller student into a locker. Fucking God. Although he himself was usually, at least in his opinion, passive aggressive, he'd never shove a kid into a locker.
What good did it do?
He groaned. Time to be a good samaritan. The bigger man. He tapped the monster on the shoulder. They were almost the same height, but Dejon was taller by two inches. "Excuse me, sir." He said, getting his attention.
The rude monster looked over his shoulder and scoffed, “Can’t you see I’m a bit busy, pretty-boy?” He said while stopping for a moment. He looked very annoyed that this guy was putting a hold on his fun.
The little skeleton woman on the other hand was finally hopeful because someone might actually be trying to help her. She now squirmed more and tried to get out again.
"Oh, are you? Well, from what I know about you, you should be getting busy as you're failing science and math. And unless you'd like to scurry out the door right this second, I'd like to announce that to the whole school for you."
The monster looked a bit scared but tried to tough it out. "Oh, really? What'll that do?"
“Well, it might scare any potential people who might like you--at least the good ones--, it's embarrassing in general to have these things yelled out, and you can get kicked off the team for failing this stuff..." He looked at his nails, picking on one. "And I know some lovely guys who'd love to take your spot on the field."
He glanced at the skeleton in the locker with a bored look, just to see if he knew them. Nope. She looked familiar, though. Probably had a class or two with him.
"I'll say it again, just so it can get through that thick little skull of yours. Would you like me to yell out what you're failing? And get you uprooted?"
Before the jock could answer the small skeleton in the locker kicked him in the face, she hopped out of the locker as he stumbled back and hid behind Dejon. She was hoping the taller would protect her if the rude jock tried to hurt her. “YOU LITTLE FUCKING-” He shook the dizziness from his head and went to grab the young woman from behind Dejon.she’s a fiery little thing! >:) //
"Ay. No touch, caveman." He said, blocking the guy with his arm. "And no swearing either, eh? There's little 8th graders and freshmans walking about."
"Now, you seem a little out of it." He slammed the horned monster's locker shut before picking up his backpack and tossing it to him. "How about you go home now? Before you make a bigger buffoon out of yourself, getting kicked by someone this small."
“You know what? Fine, I don’t care anymore. Tell that little bitch she’s not safe in the halls anymore.” He said while walking away and flipping them off. He finally gave up.
The female gave a sigh of relief, “Thank you so much.”
He turned to look at the smaller skeleton behind him, still with a bored and apathetic look on his face. "No problem, I guess. Happens all the time, I just try to stop it every once in a while."
She smiled at him and nodded, “My name is Sweet Tea, what’s yours?” She asked, wanting to know the name of her helper, he seemed nice enough despite his lack of interest.
"Sweet Tea, huh? Nice. I'm Dejon, like the mustard. Dejon Newmann.” He hitched his backpack on his shoulders, loosening the straps a little. "You look familiar. You have a class with me?"
“We uh.. have 4 periods and lunch together.” She informed him nervously, looking up at the taller while grabbing her things. “We never really talked to each other I guess.” She shrugged while putting her backpack on.
"Makes sense to me. Maybe we should have lunch together, since it seems you've been paying close attention to our schedules." He chuckled.
She giggled and nodded, “I promise I’m not a stalker, I just am very aware of my surroundings. And lunch together sounds great.” She had a slight blush on her face that was barely noticeable, she had never been asked out before, let lone by a jock.
WAIT! No- this wasn’t a date! What was she thinking? He probably already has a girlfriend or something. She was panicking a little mentally but kept her cool on the outside. “I’ll see you on Monday then?”
"Sure. You need my number? Or is it too early?" He teased, laughing again. He still, however, pulled his phone out just in case. He was sure if his friends caught wind of this they were sure to pounce on him and tell him he's asking her out. He would be surprised if they didn't.

She nodded again enthusiastically, she was a very animated person. “That would be nice, actually! Mine is ___-___-____.” She told him while messing with a fidget that was in her hand. She had ADHD and needed to keep her hands busy to focus on what people were saying most of the time.

"Mmm. Okay. Got it. Thanks. You'll get a text from me soon; you'll know who it is." He said, tapping her number in. He headed out towards the double doors, with sunlight streaming through. He cocked his head towards her, waving at her as he walked out. "I'll talk to you later, Sweet Tea!"
The smaller waved goodbye with a cute smile, heading off in the other direction to leave school, her car was on the other end of the building so she had to go the other way. She thought of him the entire drive home, finally, someone nice to heard and someone that could be a potential friend!
He had at last gotten his lunch from the cafeteria, and headed outside to sit at one of his favorite spots, a tree on the school grounds encased by a circular cement rim that he (and whoever he was with) sat on.
"Ooooh, grilled cheese and tomato soup!"
Sweet Tea trotted over to him and waved, “Dejon! Hey, Dejon!” She called to him as she came closer, “It’s great to see you!” She smiled and sat next to him on the cement.
He froze mid-bite, with tomato basil soup dripping down his chin. He smiled, and waved at her before taking the bite out of his sandwich.
"Sorry about that," He said, wiping his chin with a napkin. "But it's good to see you too; I didn't think you were gonna come."
“Of course I would! I’m a lady of my word.” She giggled at the soup that dribbled down his chin, finding that very amusing. She pulled out her lunch from her backpack and unpacked it; she had a very good looking meal in a bento box. Rice, beef slices, vegetables, all the good parts of a meal. Tt was still warm, too!
"Holy shit, that looks good. Now, lunch here is pretty good too but that's on a whole 'nother level. Who made that? You make this?" He asked, pointing at her bento box, while chewing on his sandwich.
Sweet picked up her chopsticks and took a bite of rice as he asked all his questions, “I didn’t make this sadly, my big sis is in town from college and she helps me and my sisters out a lot.” She said while putting some of the juicy beef in her mouth, it was very well-cooked and so tender it would melt in your mouth.
“My sis is going to culinary school, she plans to own her own restaurant some day!”

"Ohhh, I see. Well then, maybe I should ask your sister out if she makes stuff like this." He laughed heartily before shaking his head. "Only joking, I bet your sister already has a boyfriend or girlfriend."
He sipped from his waterbottle, sighing. "How about you? What do you want to major in?"
The smaller snickered at his joke, “Well, I always loved the idea of modeling as my future career but if that doesn’t work out I think I might try teaching.” She said while eating some more rice and meat. “Do you have any plans after high school?”
He thought for a moment, racking his brain. "Honestly, not really. Maybe as an athlete or something else... I don't know what that would be though." He dipped his second grille cheese into the soup, licking off some access soup and chewed, still thinking.
“I get that! You’ve still got another year to figure it out if you want to go to college right after high school.” She chirped happily to him while gently kicking her feet over the concrete ledge, she looked pretty cute like that.
He smiled, looking at her while she swung her legs about. He checked his watch. "Oh, we have about 20 minutes left..." He muttered, shoving the sandwich in his mouth. He took a drink of his water, gulping down about half of it in one swig.
Sweet rushed her eating a little like he did, shoveling some rice and beef into her mouth. She swallowed and took a sip of the drink in her water bottle.
"Dude, relax, or you'll get an upset stomach eating that much so fast. 20 minutes it enough time, I just like taking a walk or heading to the library with my last 15 minutes or so." He interjected, concerned. He didn't want her to choke or get indigestion from her eating too fast.
“Hmm? No no, it’s alright! I’m fine, you worry too much.” She giggled nervously, hoping she didn’t weird him out or anything. She took another sip of her drink and looked away to hide her shy blush.
"Well, alright then. Still, don't eat too fast..." He replied. "I'll be right back, Sweet Tea." He finished the rest of his water started off to throw it away in one of the nearby trashcans. He paused, turning around. "Have any trash? I'll take it for you." He asked, holding his empty hand out to her.
