"he's back lily." severus said quietly, ignoring the pain in his arm and instead to the witch before him. harry had been a key element in his return and now the war would begin.
She took a breath. She knew this day would come. She knew he had been weakened but not killed the night he had come for her and her son. She turned from him, leaning against the desk. She wasn’t scared, not for herself anyways. Her biggest fear was for her son, and how she failed to protect him this time. She knew the road ahead of him would be long and hard, and that she would not be able to protect him. That is what scared her the most.
“What can I do?” She knew her son was up in the hospital wing, asleep. All she wanted was to be with him. Slowly she turned to face him. She didn’t hide her worry, her pain from him. Arms crossed over her chest. “What do I do?” She needed to do something, something that made her feel like she was helping. She had to do something, anything.
“I can’t protect him now.” The words were barely a whisper. She wasn’t sure if he had heard them. She hid her face in her hands. “I couldn’t protect him.” He had been torn from her grasp. Ripped from her careful watch and she had been unable to do anything. She didn’t even know. She could feel tears on her cheeks, yet she did nothing to wipe them away. Severus was probably one of the only people left who she wasn’t afraid to show her tears. At least not with this. “He’s my son Severus, what am I supposed to do?”
