#internationalwomensday 💕 #happywomensday ✨ Queen Nefertiti-Neferneferuaten -Queen Nefertiti is amongst the most popular symbols of Ancient Egypt, wife to Akhenaten, she remains an icon of timeless beauty and power. Nefertiti means “The beautiful one has come”, her presence was definitely felt during her reign as queen from1353 to 1336 B.C. She was pivotal in initiating a religious revolution, which called for monotheistic worship of the sun god, Amen –Ra. Her relationship with the pharaoh shows that Nefertiti was the power behind the throne: she led worship, drove chariots and defeated enemies. A limestone bust of her likeness, discovered in 1912, alongside drawings of her, indicate that she was considered a living fertility goddess. Nefertiti mysteriously disappeared, some suggest she may have taken over the ruling of Egypt between her husband’s death and Tutankhamun’s reign. #internationalwomensday 💕 #happywomensday ✨ Yaa Asantewaa celebrated as the Anti-colonial, freedom fighter and Queen mother of Ejisu (Ashanti Empire, modern Ghana). Queen mother Nana Yaa Asantewaa, keeper of the Golden stool, refused to forfeit this sacred Asante symbol to the colonial governor and led the her people to fight the British in 1900. She said: "If you, the men of Asante, will not go forward, then we will. We, the women, will. I shall call upon my fellow women. We will fight! We will fight till the last of us falls in the battlefields." It took 2000 British troops to capture her, but her acts were never forgotten and her courage motivated the kingdom to rebel against the British. #internationalwomensday 💕 #happywomensday ✨ Miriam Makeba - Miriam Makeba, affectionately known as Mama Africa, was a South African singer and political activist. She was the first ever African artist to be recognised worldwide; she introduced the sounds of Xhosa and Zulu internationally with songs such as "Pata Pata", "The Click song" and "Malaika", she also won a Grammy award for best folk recording. Her international success sparked from an appearance in an anti-apartheid documentary in 1959. Her activism and open opposition to the apartheid regime resulted in the loss of her passport and citizenship in the 1960s, she returned to SA in 1990 for the first time after apartheid was abolished.
