i just think of that mobile game

LOL Yeah, so it's an animated series on Netflix based on that mobile game (League of Legends), but speaking as someone who knew shit all about League before watching, it's pretty beginner friendly and is sort of like... adjacent... to the game, the characters/lore don't line up 1:1 etc.

Specifics of the plot would be kind of convoluted to explain without spoilers because it's one of those shows with a large ensemble cast whose individual motivations all collide to create the episode-to-episode events. The general set-up is that there's a rich scifi/fantasy city built overtop a much poorer slum and the two segments of the city are veering towards civil war. The main cast includes characters from both sides, from poor orphans to the richest woman in the city, etc, and I thought it did a pretty good job of presenting a cast of characters who are behaving understandably or sympathetically even as they're making objectively terrible decisions lmao.

The animation is the strongest part of the show, it's incredible. In addition to being very beautiful I don't think I've ever seen the level of detail, facial expression, etc in an animated series before (especially one for adults... god). Every character has so much personality in how they move, react, etc, even when they're in the background of a scene. Not tryna drag other animated shows because I know it's mostly a question of budget and time but like... the difference between this and She-Ra for example is unbelievable. The nuance to character performances feel more like I'm watching something live-action.

I think the story itself takes a little while to get going -- you really gotta hold on until episode 3 lol -- but once the pace picks up in the later episodes it's pretty breakneck. I liked or was interested in basically every character by the end and found a lot of the relationships compelling, including ships and familial ones and ones I didn't expect to care about. I watched most of it like "This is pretty good I guess" and then since the finale I've thought of little else and immediately started rewatching, lmao, so it was a sleeper hit for me.

Okay so in fairness at this point I haven't seen 42 in like... ten years... so it would be hard to write a detailed list of the stuff I don't like. I just found the plot unbelievably contrived -- not even the living sun (although: kind of the living sun), but the idea that there was this failsafe security system and the only way to get through it was to answer *random trivia questions* just... I can't handle that. It's too stupid LOL. It makes NO SENSE:

-Trivia can be answered by anyone, not a specific set of people, which is the point of a security system. It's like if your bank security question was "What is the capital of Australia". Why in the goddamn -Not only that but the trivia they use, for no reason, includes trivia from the 20th century Earth (so Martha can answer) even though the contemporary cast literally don't even know how to pronounce "Beatles"... who chose this?? -And iirc one of the doors IS a personal security question, for no reason, for variety. But it never got changed when crew changed lol. Anyway I just remember finding the rest of the episode not really good enough to justify my extreme irritation by like, everything else happening, lol.

Re: the Chibnall era, I can't tell you too much except that I watched about 4 episodes of it, was bored and never have watched more. Full disclosure, I had already stopped watching the show regularly by the time he took over. I had given up midway into Twelve's last season when I just wasn't enjoying any of it. When Thirteen started, I love Jodie Whittaker and was interested in a change of showrunner, so I tuned in, but... yeah. Just fell flat for me, I wasn't interested.

I did watch a 5 hour youtube video (lmao) about the issues in that era which... kind of just leads me to believe I was correct to dip. The new characters just did not connect with me enough to keep watching.

I liked Broadchurch s1 and s2 as well (s3 do not interact), but I never liked Chibnall's DW work -- his episodes under RTD and Moffat are consistently some of my very least favourites -- and I didn't like much of his work on Torchwood either/assume a lot of what was salvageable from Torchwood came from oversight from the DW-RTD-Julie Gardner mothership tbh.

That is the greatest compliment, thank you!! XDD (Very hard for me to determine even in real life-- usually have to look for outfits that tightly hug (or expose) the torso. Thankfully, DD and GA had a plethora of those lying around. It can get addicting fast~. >:DD

I'm going to say I interpret Scully as less withdrawn and distanced from her emotions, i.e. she is very aware of them and gives into them more than she lets on.

17. I adore alt. S9 or really good S8 fics; but I'm gonna have to throw in a bit of love for Arcadia-- it's often written as a rough time for Mulder or Scully, when I always perceived it as her having a blast (at first) and him suffering and making others suffer until he sniffs out an x-file.
