This (presumably late) 16th century spiral staircase was once part of the so-called ‘stins’ of the Frisian Liauckema family. After 1731 it was absorbed into the residence of Marie Louise of Hesse-Kessel, widow of John William Friso, Prince of Orange. This staircase is encased in a tower with a typical 16th century onion dome on top.
