Her death had been far from peaceful, yet in it she found peace. An odd sort of peace but peace nonetheless. Even in knowing that she should be worried- she’d lost her child and her husband was across the world, so far away and blind to the truth- she felt calm. For deep down, she knew that eventually, they’d be reunited. There was nothing to worry. But something had stirred her. Some supernatural event had brought her from the light back down to earth. It was the same force that kept Wilson from transcending from the mortal coil and into her arms and until it was laid to rest, she was left to walk the earth, unseen, unheard, but all-seeing, all-hearing. Most of the time, she stayed with her perturbed husband. Watching him over the course of many years, and watching out for him. His mind was not as sharp as it used to be after all. Over time, she learned she could wander, and she wandered far.
There were things on this earth that she felt drawn to. Like a magnet. Doors opened between her world and that of her still-living husband. People trying to reconnect with the spirits of loved ones or talk to the dead, asking them to prove themselves. Sometimes they responded. Sometimes they didn’t. And sometimes, they invited something else entirely into their realm. Some of the other things that walked this plane with her. And sometimes, they forgot to close the door. This time was different though. Normally, Evelyn was drawn to locations, to gatherings: seances, or haunted places, places of cult sightings, or mediums offering services. But not this time. This time it was a person.
She followed the woman in question, trailing behind her. Unseen, unheard, but with her she brought a strange warmth to her surroundings. The air felt lighter. A comforting presence, faint as she kept her distance, but undoubtedly there. She took her time, floating around the “lure” of sorts to study her. Someone so new, she wanted to commit the person to memory. Stick around for bit. Maybe find out if there was a clear reason why she was drawn to this particular person and her alone. There must be a reason after all, right?
