D O W R Y B A S K E T S In his dotage, Uncle has a cultural fascination with dowry baskets. So much so he carried one monster 3-tier basket all the way back from his hometown of Kuching via “Fragile” luggage. His mate Tzin Kit had found one in the markets and sent Uncle a photo. On the strength of that pictorial reference, he said “buy it” not realising the hassle of bringing it back to Auckland. He drew on his design training to craft the packaging. He had to explain to Border Security what it is; I don’t think the officer believed him but he wished Uncle “Good Luck!” Earlier this week, Uncle found another Dowry Basket at the Salvation Army Family Store in Onehunga. As Aunty Yoke Har @88spicesnz says, it more a Birthday Basket since it has a golden crane motif. But it's the Melaka-style of baskets for auspicious occasions. The rate he’s going, 2020 does not herald a decade of minimalism. #dowrybasket #bigandsmall #salvationarmyfinds #onehunga #minimalism (at Herne Bay, New Zealand) https://www.instagram.com/p/B7I0ADrpmYh/?igshid=cmm8fx52ubb9
