I'll never forget the day I got my first paying coaching client... I'd spent about an hour talking to him about his business and his goals. He'd purchased a copy of my book, Unlimited Potential, and we were going thru some ideas from the book. Before leaving the Panera Bread, I told him I'd be in touch soon to follow up. About 30 minutes later, I'm sitting in a corner booth at Charleston with two friends. We're waiting for our food to be prepared and served to us. I mention how well the previous meeting had gone. My friend asks me about transitioning to paying clients. My system apparently worked for other people. After hemming and hawing for a bit, he opens his journal and starts going over numbers. This is how great masterminds work BTW. Then he says it... "Do you think he'd pay you?" I say: "I think so." He says: "Why don't you text him and ask him?" I pull out my phone and send this text: "If I gave you deep discount of say 80% off my services, would you be willing to get coaching from me at $25 an hour for one session a month?" His response: "Let's do it." Granted, it wasn't that large of an amount but it was huge for me... Someone other than my friends and family believed in me and was willing to pay me because of that belief. That's the thing to do. Stop doubting your prospects belief in your offer. Make the ask! As I did in this situation, my book was the beginning of instilling a stronger belief in me. Plus, it began building know, like, and trust factor.
