The ordinary waking consciousness is a very useful and, on most occasions, an indispensable state of mind; but it is by no means the only form of consciousness, nor in all circumstances the best.  Insofar as he transcends his ordinary self and his ordinary mode of awareness, the mystic is able to enlarge his vision, to look more deeply into the unfathomable miracle of existence.

To address the nature of love I first must define what I mean by love. Although it can be interpreted in a romantic manner, the sensation of love is something much more basic than that.

Simply put love is the feeling associated with the attempt to be there for another, regardless of situation. Essentially unconditional love is the only form of true love, and other form of “love” is essentially false.

Then to determine the nature of love we need to determine why a human being would ever feel the desire to care for another. The simplest explanation for this is the idea of interconnectedness, “one-mind” or universal consciousness. Theorized by philosophers starting with Plato, to psychologist Carl Jung. The idea being pretty self-apparent, that we as humans are all connected to each other in some sort of manner, with a focus on shared collectivistic experience. I say this is the simplest explanation because collectivism is counter-intuitive to survival, in fact Huxley hypothesized the reason we aren’t “fully connected” with each other at all times is because we developed filters in order to survive.
