Kasper wakes up grinning at the clock. March 4th. It’d taken ages to fall asleep last night, and despite all the current shadows hanging over his life, he’s brimming with excitment. 

     Birthday’s had never been particularly special - there’s one he barely remembers, just the smell of smoke and a great big cake, and feeling happy. But other than that they’ve been overshadowed by transitions, testing periods, and families that suddenly realized they just didn’t have enough room or time for him, or didn’t particularly care that he was officially another year older.

This time, he’s got Darcy - he’s got the best dog in the world, a solid job, friends like Harry, and he’s finally free. Free of the state, free of the worry, free to make his own life and be his own person. He takes Taisce out for a walk, leaves a note for Darcy to remind her that she’s awesome, and goes to work feeling lighter than he ever has. 

    He’s eighteen, and his home is New York.

                    He’s eighteen, and he’s finally got a family.

Trivia

One-Eight’s appearance is based on One-Seven’s original character design.

It was considered One-Seven’s “brother.” While under the control of the implanted Satan Circuit, One-Eight was One-Seven’s nemesis. In the end, One-Eight was redeemed before sacrificing itself to stop Harken Killer.
