day 6 also contains two ships. ondigami first
femslash february #6: ondigami (lion)
ondine and kagami are both u17 championship swimmers. ondine tends to do better at shorter distances, because her muscles let her burst away at the start, but kagami's leaner build means she has more stamina and does better over longer distances. still, neither ever pulls far ahead on average, which annoys both of them - both want to be the best. the media calls this a battle between lions, and seem to want there to be a winner just as much as they do.
marinette, who's friends with both of them, is upset by this. she's met both after competitions where they've either won or lost, and when they lose they always seem mad and when they win they always seem smug. so she decides, in her perhaps infinite lack of wisdom, to set them up on a blind date with each other at a fancy restaurant. she hopes that maybe they can get to see each other as something other than just an opponent.
let's be clear. marinette's idea is terrible, and kagami and ondine immediately go spikes out when they see each other. but marinette did do one thing right, and that was to pay the bills for them, so they feel obligated to remain for their friend if nothing else. little by little, they relax and start to talk about normal things, not just swimming: they both like painting, they both have antisocial ex boyfriends, they listen to similar music (jazz). they have the same favourite colour (red). they have a lot in common, actually, and they end the night as friends.
the next day, kagami texts marinette. "set us up on another date," she demands. "we became friends, but i want to see if we could be more."
marinette texts back ten minutes later. "ondine just asked me the same thing," she says, with five skull/crying emojis. "i think there's a pretty good chance you could be more."
at their next competition three weeks later, which ends with a photo finish and a double u17 national record, ondine and kagami share a kiss on camera after getting out of the pool.
