it only took watching will poulter fucking up an interview intentionally for a prank that it occurred to me how hard it must be to never fuck it all up, and how all that surface relaxed ease is covering up how hard they are working every second

always making it look so effortless

what could ever prepare an actor for the reality of needing to make 600 rephrasings of the same three talking points sound off-the-cuff, with affable, unflappable, limitless poise, making everyone laugh the whole time

oh and be memorable (in a good way) while you’re at it

deliver funny, viral, meme-worthy bit after bit after bit

the whole time, every stop around the whole world

🤔 but what if you’re unfunny?

🤔 what if you’re naturally tongue tied under pressure?

🤔 what if you got into acting bc you’re shy af periodt, and it offers another person’s mouth to speak through? what if your mind takes time to choose its words carefully? what if you just go blank?

on a red carpet, interview after interview, on a morning show at 4am, and worst of all a press junket with 600 tiny YouTube channels mixed in with the hugely important industry ones

how the hell does media training train for all of that

a deer in the headlights who has lost all his words like cosmo jarvis, or a charles melton who isn’t constantly serving terribly profound observations or jokes

vs.

effortlessly charismatic, philosophically riveting, and hilarious, like a joe quinn, a kit connor, or a will poulter

without being a dick or a diva. (when’s lunch.)
