This book was left over from my October TBR list. I started but didn't quite finish in time for Halloween. I have seen this book so many times on my Instagram and finally decided to see what everyone was talking about before the sequel Omens Bite comes out in April (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/57693345-omens-bite?ac=1&from_search=true&qid=RdpmwbRPkv&rank=1).
Two twin sisters, descendants of Salams Sara Goode, are finally learning what it means to be Gatekeepers after years of watching their mother protect the five gates to the different underworlds (portals to worlds or realms full of monsters and mythology rules). However, something goes terribly wrong as the girls and their mother preform their yearly ritual. When the girls lose their mother and a mythological monster gets free the girls must handle their grief and learn how to return the monster to his home and close the gates before others join their mother's fate.
I really enjoyed this book. I found the story to be very unique. I wasn't expecting the monster that was released to be the mythical creature that it was. I loved the unique character of their "Aunt". I felt that the character Kirk fit the typical jock personality and found his conversations to be douchbaggie, no wonder no-one liked him. I got a bit of a Sabrina feel while reading. Over all I liked this book, but can't say I loved it. I have to give it a 3-star rating. I do plan on reading Omens Bite in April when it comes out.
