Autumn is almost upon us, huh? Suddenly the weather went from being overbearingly hot to rainy, windy and always so... grey. I guess that’s England for you!
I wish there was more for me to update you on, little one. Apart from the odd walk around town or to the local market and surrounding parks, our days have been spent cooped up in our house, doing all sorts of things - cooking, playing, watching TV and in your case, growing and learning!Â
I guess the main thing is that we’re always happy. You, me, and your Daddy.
I’d better end this post now, I can hear you crying in the other room!
It seems like just yesterday when I posted your 6 month update! I wish someone had told me how quickly babies grow so I could have at least prepared myself.Â
I made a big mistake before writing this update - I went back to the first post on my blog (and yes, as usual, I teared up!) I just can’t believe that you were such a tiny four month old baby when now you’re so big that carrying you is a workout!
Height/Weight: You are 28.4in/72.1cm and a whopping 19.3lbs/8.8kg! The man who helped us move was convinced that you were a one year old. Nope, you’re just my chunky monkey ;)
During the Day: Not much has changed in terms of your naps - you still take 2 naps whereas before you would take up to 3-4 depending on how well you’d slept the night before and how busy we were during the day. You hate being still now (no more watching TV for you!) and get very fussy if you can’t move around. Safe to say that I now spend my days chasing after you and pulling various things from dust to bugs out of your mouth... yep, that’s as fun as it sounds...
During the Night: Your sleeping has kind of regressed ever since we moved - the night before, I was so busy packing that I didn’t put you down until 11:30! Since then, you wake up every 2-4 hours per night. It’s a good thing you and I sleep in your father’s spare room! I think you’ll settle down soon, you just really hate your routine being disrupted.
Eating Habits: You now eat three (albeit tiny) meals a day! I love it when you, your father and I sit down at the table together to eat (we make an adorable family!) Although you don’t eat the same meals that we do, sometimes I let you try just a bit and you don’t seem to mind! Typically, you’ll have a fruit/vegetable puree for breakfast or a baby porridge, followed by a bottle. For lunch, I normally give you some form of finger food, such as cereals, small pieces of fruit/vegetables, bread etc. You get another bottle before your late afternoon nap (around 4pm ish) and for dinner, I give you a more savory puree, usually containing meat and vegetables (yes, all homemade!) and if your father and I are eating something baby friendly, we’ll give you a tiny bit to try.
Other important milestones:
Almost crawling! You’re a certified pro at army crawling - it’s taken over rolling over as your main method of moving around! You can also push yourself up onto your hands and knees but can’t yet crawl. It’s entertaining watching you rock back and forth though!
Assisted standing! You love standing and bouncing whilst being held, since you can’t do it by yourself. All in good time, though! You’ll be crawling and standing and even walking before I know it! (Yikes... looks like I have to invest in a good pair of running shoes...)
Moving things from hand to hand! Since you can sit completely unaided now, you always pass toys from one hand to the other. I don’t know why this fascinates me so much, but it really does!
This month has been a big one in terms of changes for you, but you’re handling everything so well - I’m so proud of you baby boy! You seem to be growing at a lightning pace, I can barely keep up! Until next month my sweet boy,
We’re officially moved in (almost!) By Sunday, all of our belongings will be here with us; you, me and your father.

It feels weird to say that. I think subconsciously, I just assumed that I was your only parent. I guess it makes sense, seeing as your father has only just come back into our lives. And I want this blog to be full of happy memories, so I’m not going to delve into why we split right now - that can be a personal conversation between us two when you’re older.Â
But wow, has he picked up the reigns! Since meeting you, your father has completely doted on you... I really didn’t think he’d be so hands on. He always volunteers to feed you and change you, he’ll even get on his hands and knees to play with you.
It took you a while to warm up to him - even now I wouldn’t say that you even like him. “He tolerates me” is what your father said and I have to agree! You’re fine with him holding you, as long as you can see me. But I managed to take this photo of you two together earlier, I think moving all those boxes really took it out of you! All in all, I’m elated that you have each other. Who knows where this’ll lead, what the future will bring? But as long as you have a great father-son relationship like my Dad and I have, I can’t ask for anything more ♥
