When Eiji first met up with Jude this chapter, the consensus seemed to be that readers thought Jude would ask about the medallion they stole. And apparently, that's what they hoped to talk about. But turns out a physical gender bend curse that activates multiple times a day is an interesting topic and took over the conversation. XD

Eiji still doesn't reveal what's in this medallion, but he does [kinda] say what it is. And then, in a most un-Eiji move, agrees to show it for real next time, assuming Jude comes back. Despite the darker subtext to Jude's curse, I think this scene ends up being really cute.

Matthew had been entertaining one Elijah Remington's son for awhile by now. The conversations started when Eiji's help was needed with an accidental exposure by one of the younger demons in Hedon. Matthew had been there to oversee it and they started talking. The young man started talking to him more and more over the next few months, something Matthew was curious to engage in because it was common enough knowledge that he and Elijah did not get along. It seemed like Eiji felt the same way about his father as well.

The fallen deity was in Liber that day overseeing the ongoing construction of his new wine bar when he noticed the familiar human hovering outside the establishment. Matthew waved Eiji inside, his head tilting curiously as he regarded the young man. "What brings you all the way out here, Zachariah?"

Jude - choker and all - is a based on a character of mine from a now long since scrapped story. I might have come up with them as far back as my high school days. They weren't an enby then, and pain wasn't originally part of the transformation equation (the change was more "Ranma-esque" and largely an outlet for myself, of course).

But the idea of the choker once belonging to an ancient hedonistic king in an attempt to keep him in line? That is word for word how I planned it back then. I decided to play with how stupid of a plan that is, though. My wisdom and experience today tells me this almost certainly wouldn't have had any positive impact on the selfish king unless they wanted this to some extent. Themis did not. So it was basically torture for no reason for him. As a kid, I didn't know better. (I just knew I kinda wanted it.) As an adult, I decided to present it as the advisor's ignorance.

So in summation, this is now a brutal curse, that in a misguided attempt to better a long past king, ended in two high profile deaths, is tormenting a new kid thousands of years later - less because of the effects on their sex and more because it stole away their identity and may someday kill them.

It wasn't exactly a big mystery to us that needed a reveal all this time later, but it does tie a bow on that whole ordeal for Eiji. ch.3, p.84 - Sneeze

Rather than be mad about it, he asks what exactly is going on with Jude. And while they have explained their curse before, there may be some new details to take from this page. And although Jude's talked about their mortality before, I don't think they've never put a hard number on it until now.

As a final note, I'd like to offer a content warning for the next page, which will feature some flashbacks that will contain depictions of blood and death. I don't think it's anything too graphic, but I do want you to have the fair warning.
