Felicity stumbled in the halls the following Monday morning ignoring everyone in sight trying her best to make it to class before the bell rings. âFel!â she heard a familiar voice catch up to her. She turned to see Tommy Merlyn. She scrunched her face in wonder, âHi?â
âHey, I barely saw you at my party. Whoa do you always walk this quick?â
âUh, yeah it wasnât really my scene, sorry. Iâm going to be late to class.â
âWell, uh, I was wondering if you wanted to go out with me.â Felicity stopped in her tracks, âWhat?â
âYou know you, me, dinner; maybe even taking you home and stealing a kiss. Tonight?â
âOh, wowâŚum,â Felicity had no idea how to react other than saying no, âIâm sorry, I mean I would love to, but I canât. I am tutoring Oliver tonight. Maybe another time?â
âDefinitely, yeah. Iâll see you around, Fel.â
âBye,â Felicity said feeling her cheeks heat up but little did she know that Oliver was watching the whole thing.
Oliver laid down on his bed with his phone in hand scrolling through nothing in particular while Felicity sat at the edge of the bed swinging her legs back and forth as the dangled over the bed, reading a novel assigned in English patiently waiting for Oliver to join her to understand what it means to âclose readâ a text.
Oliver set down his phone on his stomach staring at Felicityâs back, smiling how her hair was down today, for once, rather than up. âWhy did you say no?â Felicity turned her body confused, âSay no to what, exactly?â Oliver moved positions jumping to sit next to felicity with his feet touching the floor, âTo Tommy.â
âHe told you,â she nodded in a of course tone. âNo, I saw. He still hasnât told me.â
âI said no because Iâm spending the night with you,â Oliver smiled at Felicityâs words until she re-traced her words, âI mean, not like that even though weâre on your bedâŚâ Oliver chuckled, âRelax. Câmon letâs take a break.â Oliver grabbed Felicityâs hand pulling her away from her book and his room. âBut we havenât even started yet!â she giggled.
âEh, we have all night.â
As the night progressed, Oliver and Felicity spent hours and hours laughing and joking about people in school, movies and TV shows they commonly found interesting. They both were amazed how the smartest girl in school and the complete jock of it all were a lot more similar than anyone would think. âMiss Smoak,â Diggle cleared his throat. âItâs time for me to take you home,â Felicity looked to Diggle and then Oliver smiling, âIâll go get my things.â Oliver stayed smiling watching her leave. âYou know your parents are paying her to help you pass high school not have an ice cream date.â
âWe werenât on a date.â Diggle scoffed, âYeah, ok, man. You like her and she likes you. Donât hurt her,â Diggle said walking away taking a very happy Felicity back home.
The doorbell rang as Oliver was heading up the curved stairwell in the Queen Manor. He answered confused, âLaurel?â
âHi.â
âIs everything okay?â
âNo, itâs my dadâŚc-can I please stay here for the night.â Knowing Laurelâs past family issues, he didnât decline. He led her up the stairwell showing her to the guest room and comforting her until she fell asleep.
âHere we are, Felicity,â Diggle said. âThank you Mr. Diggle-Diggle. Just Diggle,â she laughed.
âCan I ask you something?â he asked.
âSure!â Felicity smiled moving closer to the driver seat from the backseat. âYouâre a strong, smart young lady, why did you agree to tutor Oliver?â
âI need the money, and he was nice to me. Most people arenât in high school. Itâs not the best place but itâs fine-I mean itâs never okay for bullies to be well, mean but I donât really care, you know?â Diggle chuckled, âYes, I know. Good night. Felicity.â
âGoodnight! And thanks for the ride home.â Felicity stepped out of the car heading to her room knowing her mother still wouldnât be home yet. Before finally melting into her soft bed sheets, Felicity checked her phone receiving a random text secretly hoping to herself that it was Oliver.
Her message was Oliver, but it was Oliver with Laurel in bed and it didnât look very friendly. Laurel had gotten Felicityâs number sending her the image. Upset, Felicity turned off her phone and closed her eyes hoping her dreams were better than the picture imprinted in her brain.
