Take it from the person who had to clip every whimper for 5 seasons he is very winey and freaks out most. Some mistake him having a reasonable reaction to threats as weakness.

Jay might be objectively the least mentally stable looking at hunted and crystallized but I’d argue it makes him more paranoid and harder to kill. Fear never stops him..

Jay was the only Ninja to survive Nadakhan’s manipulation when caught alone. All former elemental masters wished it all away, Wu and Misako wished it all away. Jay defeated him.

And I’m sure other Jay fans have 1000 reasons to add, but I’ll save my long essay writing energy for My Skybound Video Script. (Please tag me in any passionate Jay is strong ranting I wanna hear it lmao)

I picked changed some order of quotes and how scene went to work better and be clear. I showing jays resistance actually would take more time and less fun than making him attack >:).

This bit is all done frame by frame I use key frames and such other parts but this is the center point of my animation cause the lyrics match good. And it’s also where everything starts heading downhill. Trying to hit all day emotional beats necessary for part two of my Skybound project. Already feel like I could do what I already made better, but I’m not going to reanimate it because it would take forever and it’s good enough. It’s not as important to me as part two and I want to get there asap.

The scene

There is a lot to say about this scene It’s a majorly consequential point and gives really dark characterization to a villain that is… certainly a choice for a show aimed at kids. I’m spoiling my Animatic so might as well give I’ll also give some of My analysis video thoughts.

First, the conversation. Nya has a lot going on in Skybound, She’s struggling with her perception by the public and being defined by other people. She’s the new ninja, the girl ninja in a team that has already been established for a while trying to find her place. This is explicitly the reason why she doesn’t want to be dating Jay. She’s worried the people will think of her only has his girlfriend.

It’s not known if she’s in love with him still at this point she very well could be but she simply has bigger things overwhelming her to deal with. So she tries her best to be kind and stop him from pursuing her. It’s what she’s explaining now and later in the lighthouse scene. When Jay actually listens to her, when she feels heard and seen by him suddenly it matters less what others perceive her as. Her ark makes the most sense.

Second Jay… while, she’s pretty clear about her reasons to not date in this he simply does not hear her or believe her. He acts entitled to her and projects his insecurities onto her reasons to reject him. That he is poor and from a junkyard. This is what he thinks is wrong with him and the stalker djinn picks up on this weakness immediately.

And Last Nadakhan God where to start. His goal here is to convince a ninja to make their three wishes so he can steal them and use their power to make him stronger. Supposedly making them pay for the destruction of his realm.

But he sure as hell is not a normal Villain in the way he goes about it.

This is more than the fact he is targeting teenagers. And throws away most his revenge narrative to force one into marriage so he can gain infinite wishes.

(I know some like to argue on age but I’m sorry. They are said to always be teens by the hageman brothers as well as S9 mention and mentioned to be teen idols in skybound itself.)

He hears Jays vulnerability and waits till he’s alone to take advantage of him. Jay is resistant at first but eventually gives in to Nadakhan’s offer. He makes a wish tying to fix what he thinks is wrong with him.

Nadakhan is physically all over the person he wants to wish, It’s a fear strategy and a warning sign. It’s all deeply uncomfortable to watch

Though it’s not the worst we get from on screen torture, forced kiss and caresses unconscious girl character. But I’ll save it for later.

I’ll finally be able to put to words the Nya characters ark

The three main themes of her struggle I overlap so much they were hard to find the words I settled on.

Belonging -main theme her new role/place on the team

Misogyny - the complex extra shit she’s having to deal with for existing a girl.

Perseption- how she is misunderstood and judged by others.

(Ramps up the other two problems.)

Over her character arc she’s out of the public eye, gets to really be a ninja in the team, learns Airjizu and most importantly finally feels understood and listened to by Jay in the lighthouse.

It no longer matters as much to her how the “world defines her” because of him. He sees her.

So she goes on to make choices to define herself.

Like confessing to Jay despite it making her “just Jays girlfriend” to some annoying people.

And choosing to save him by shoving him face first through the portal! >:)

Firstly jay gets blamed for Zane being gone, however zane already knew that jay made his two out of his three wishes. Now sure they don’t know that. Still really annoying, also the fact that no one gave a shit that jay was adopted is awful sure they might be mad at him but the fact that it would’ve been so much better if they just look back up him with some with some sad eyes or something and then just turn away and still angry with him but nothing so much better than them just ignoring him in general also they didn’t really tell that they might have been killed by the tiger widow but they had Cole who’s a ghost now we know we do know that ghosts are weak to water but we don’t know how they do with venom I do that how in the next episode they realised their mistake.

Also at the beginning of the episode when jay tells Cole he already made two out of three wishes and how are you and how was lucky to not to not make his Third it almost sounded as though he was going to wish it all away.

Heh oh boi Let me stop you right there, this is the take I had about 7 years ago. I grew up, I was wrong and my opinion changed let me tell you why.

First, the ninja should absolutely be mad at Jay for not telling them he made wishes.

He talked to their enemy, lied to them about his inheritance and held back vital information that would keep his friends safer.

Sure, Zane figured out Jay had made wishes and still went alone. But don’t you think Lloyd or Nya would have let him if they knew? And what about Kai!? I don’t even think Cole knows Jay could have saved him.

Jay definitely deserves some blame for Zane and Kai wishing it all away. Jay sharing his experience might have saved both of them but he didn’t give his team the best chance winning.

Even though he was manipulated into keeping the wishes to himself out of shame, that does NOT mean the other were wrong for being pissed at him.

Second, Jay brought up that he was adopted purely for sympathy in that moment. He literally says “in my defense, I did just find out my birth parents weren’t my real parents. Very much not a defense It’s fully unrelated to the way he messed up, the other have no obligation to respond to that and quite honestly I’m not even sure they heard him.

Third, he’s not actually treated that bad for what he did. The way he whines might have you believe that but ALL his friends do is be angry, ignore him and not comfort him when he’s whining about whatever.

Worst thing was nominating him to get the venom. It can be debated if Jay deserves this as he’s being put into a deadly situation.

Though I would argue this kinda is just the ninjas Job…… and he put the others in danger by withholding info. Also the others know Jay, well enough to know he can do it. Remember he’s stronger than he appears. They sure think he can get the venom on his own and he does.

However, feeling the way you do is very understandable with how Skybound is framed we are over empathetic to Jay so when his team turns on him and he starts acting like a wet cat it makes us think the others are wrong for making him feel bad. But once you look from the other ninjas perspective you’ll see the reality of the situation.

Not sure if this is a media literacy problem or more skybound framing thing but yeah a lot of kids walk away thinking what Jay did really wasn’t that bad. I mean I love him he’s my favorite but he still can act terrible.

(this is just a rant but I will finish my argument with evidence soon but I was feeling like yelling at phone)

Just watched a video completely butchering her character.

I’m fuming about Nya’s treatment in general like RRRRR SHE IS LIKE THE BEST WRITTEN. Most people I see talk about her never tried to see Nya’s motivation.

And because she’s grumpy and won’t take bullshit treatment. And a large part of the audience Treat her like she’s a brat for it like…

Her ark against all odds is great. The only reason so many people don’t get that is ALL because of the awful framing and them focusing on Jay at all the wrong times I PROMISE YOU.

The audience is made to focus on Jay’s feelings in moments that should’ve been about her.

Nya always thought she would end up with Jay like she said later on. She always loved him She wasn’t trying to hurt or play with his feelings but she had bigger problems, and she simply didn’t want to be dating him. Because she hated how that would make her be perceived. Which was the issues that she overcame by the end.

She is frustrated by way she’s perceived by the city. They only see her as her gender. A self insert of sorts. (There’s a scene about it first ep subtle but boils my blood) Not a person. She HATES IT.

Nya has A lot more going on like it was never her Job to walk on eggshells around Jays feelings. She was having a lot harder of a time that first episode but more screen time was dedicated to Jays moping about her.

Just AAA ggghg

He was brutally torn apart and never heard from again in Skybound timeline.

Uncared for and forgotten in the main timeline afterwards too.
