what's one pet you REALLY want
i know you said one but i honestly cannot think of a better fit for my lifestyle/situation than a pack of extremely highly strung working dogs, or perhaps a thoroughbred
@oleandir replied to your post âIâm watching the absolute nightmare thatâs going on in glumshoeâs...â
How come its true for laptops that they have to make sure everything works well together when they make it but not for desktops? Are they not sold in the same way?
Pretty much. When you buy a laptop youâre usually picking from a handful of available models. I own an older Dell Vostro 15, so letâs use that as an example.
Thereâs three options here, you can get i5+8GB RAM, i7+8GB RAM, and i7+16GB RAM. Thereâs basically no other options, so Dell can test all three versions of this exhaustively. They designed their own motherboard and cooling solution, put in one of two CPUâs, chose the RAM modules, know what screen and keyboard is plugged in, everything. Itâs really easy to test all possible configurations for bugs when thereâs only 3-7 different complete models, like for most laptops.
If we compare that to, say, the desktop one of my friends got from a local system integrator:
Thereâs ~tons~ of options that are extremely granular, e.g. I think she picked up a different GPU and added some storage for her model.
This isnât even all of them. You can select an entirely new motherboard, power supply, processor, even a new case. These sites usually have basic protections to ensure that whatever you choose is theoretically compatible (and of course, the integrators do some test) but thereâs no guarantee that what you choose is good or well matched. The integrator also canât possibly test all combinations ahead of time, so if you get a situation where say, a particular kind of line noise from the GPU causes weird memory bugs, you might not realize until later.
If youâre building it yourself, no one will stop you from buying entirely incompatible hardware, so you need to check yourself regularly and be prepared to discover problems because sometimes you really are the first person to run One Particular Aftermarket GPU Firmware attached to This Particular Motherboard.
EDIT: You ~can~ buy Rigidly Categorized And Tested Desktops from places like Dell/Alienware, MSI, NZXT, etc. and then itâs usually pretty good, places like Dell/Alienware might even have custom motherboards and GPUâs which are terrible for upgrades but provide laptop-like reliability. System Integrators are just what most people who want a custom gaming machine will go to.
i saw your tag about trying to watch the star trek series with picard in it (i'm assuming you mean ST: The Next Generation?) and it made me laugh cause i had the exact same experience. i was watching like WHAT IS THIS?!?! ive been meaning to try watch it again cause i did kind of love how fucking WILD picard was in it screaming at children and everything but i feel like its something i might need to gather some friends and alcohol together for
Oh yes, the first series with Picard, not the new one. I was like surprised and confused when I tried to watch it, and I meant to pick it back up, but every time I think about it, Iâm like. :/ hmm. Friends and alcohol might be a good strategy.

im honestly so used to reading about characters i don't know that i would almost be disorientating to learn about them lmfao my biggest question is WILL THERE BE MORE???!?!?!?!?!?! :0 ???
1. THERE WILL BE MORE
2. Iâll not give you detailed explanations then haha but Iâll give you a visual representation of who is who under the cut if you want to have a look at the pretty! (though ofc in the fic theyâd be wearing modern clothes but the LONG HAIR STAYS BECAUSE ITâS PRETTY)

oleandir replied to your post âUnpopular opinion maybe: Some of you all need to learn how to queue. â
Sorry for these comments but genuine question from someone who needs to learn how to queue, i thought that if i had a time period set from say - 8am to 10pm, it would line posts up starting from 8am and post them at regular intervals from there, so if i was online at 3pm and put a couple things in my queue it should post them at like 8am and 8.15am the next day or whatever. Is that not the case?
No worries about the comments at all.Â
While I donât exactly understand the algorithm: If you set your queue for 8am to 10pm and have 2 posts in your queue, it would probably post them at around 3pm and 10pm. It sees your window of 14 hours and spaces out these 2 posts in that window.Â
This blog is currently set for 1 post a day at 8am-8pm and the queue has set the publication time for 2pm. Exactly in the middle.Â

adhd is not an illness though its a lifelong difference in brain structure/chemistry that youâre born with. i would have difficulties associated with adhd no matter my environment. like absolutely depression for myself and many others is environmental and we shouldnât avoid looking at and talking about how our environment affects us but to go to the extreme to say Everything is caused by our environment is asinine
the way i read that post was not that it was saying adhd was entirely a result of external factors, rather that many of the problems associated with adhd are a result of environment and not inherent.
i look at the impact of capitalism largely from an autistic perspective, although i do share many traits with adhd, and while itâs true my brain is wired differently, a lot of the things i struggle with are amplified by external factors.
for example my lack of motivation and my struggle to pay attention in school was not per se a problem with my brain but a problem with the way i was being taught. having to sit still and listen and being told off for doing things like drawing while i listened, having no choice in what material i was learning or how i engaged with it, being heavily restricted in when i could pursue topics i was passionate about.
my âproductivityâ changes drastically once i am able to work on something i am passionate about, as does my focus and speed. i still sometimes have problems with starting a task but its greatly reduced. i struggled to turn things in on time constantly in school and had huge meltdowns trying to finish them, compared to now where i attend art sessions where i am entirely in control of what i do, and am frequently able to sit and churn out ceramic sculptures with little distraction.
i think itâs a balance between acknowledging that developmental differences are there but not falling back onto the idea that the problems associated with them are inherent and not a result of external factors.
