Thoughts on nikgaz who’re both into an oblivious price
Price isn't oblivious, he's hurt.
He had given nik the chance years ago, and the way he sees it, the Russian might as well have thrown it to the bears.
It's not that Nik didn't love him, he's always thought the captain was a wonderful, wonderful man.. He was just too young, priorities set on his goals of freedom, and he didn't want to promise John love when he knew he couldn't give it fully.
He would have loved to have John to himself, years later when he's ready to settle down and cater to his lover's needs. But John wanted it then, and waiting made him feel like a second choice. A back up plan. And he couldn't have that.
Poor Gaz just gets caught in the cross fire, willing to love price now. But the captain is already too cold and broken to accept the peace the sergeant can offer him.
He naturally goes to Nik, the man that seems closest to Price. In hopes of getting SOME form of affection. Nik is too kind. Won't take advantage of the young man who's too desperate to make well thought decisions. The pilot cups the back of the boy's neck and sends him on his way with a warm smile. A soft "Nyet" that no doubt hurts his pride.
Gaz stays sad, lonely, and slightly pent up. John blames Nik, Nik blames himself, and Gaz blames John.
OldMan!Reader knows that nobody is truly at fault, and is happy to take the opportunity to break in another sad hole.
