Thinking man’s crumpet...
Book / magazine racks with detachable bookmarks by OldAndCold on Etsy
Books and I
"How many books did you read in your life?" Or may be the question should be phrased in a different way: " How many books do you have at home?". When Daniel and I moved together, i had only around 20-30 pcs, most of it were the art albums and also some russian classics. Now, we have around 100's. In my previous article about books (here) , you can already get a little of an exposure to the examples, that i really like. However, let's talk more about the possibility of storing and displaying books, as it can be a vital moment at your house, especially a small one.
And here , i would need a help of the professionals: Agusta and Gustav from Denmark with their shop OldandCold. Agustav furniture and design, is a collaboration between furniture makers and designers Gustav Johannsson and Agusta Magnusdottir.

Agusta :
Currently located in Italy they build each and every item in their workshop in Piemonte. I have found them via friend of a friend on Etsy and decided to share with you, as they are quite interesting and inspirational people. As always, they have answered some of typical questions and i am sure, that you will really enjoy it!
1. Tell us about how did you get where you are now and more about yourself.
We've been designing together ever since we met some years ago. We've always designed and custom made most of the furniture in our homes. My husband is a furniture maker and makes the most beautiful furniture so our working together was always a very natural process. About 2 years ago we designed the coat racks and shorty after our book racks came to life and the nightstand and we have a lot more on the way.
2. Was it always your passion to create something and inspire people?
Almost everything we design and create is something that we have found a need for in our homes, it's just a plus when we hit something that people find inspiring.
3. Was it a tough decision, or a natural choice? For instance, is it your full time job or may be you do it on part time basis?
It was a very natural choice. We began as a hobby but quickly became my husbands full time occupation. I used to work part time on it together with my full-time job but we have recently moved to Italy in order to try to focus more on the company.
5. Any future plans on developing your business?
Yes! We've moved here in order to start getting more products out. We have a lot of products on the drawing board and are super excited to show them to the world. The start up here has been a little slower than we expected but hopefully we'll get back on track soon and be able to get some of the new products out.
6. What is your favourite thing at home?
I think our favourite piece of furniture must be the desk my husband made as his graduation piece in school. It is the most gorgeous walnut and brass desk with secret abilities. It will also be one of the products we'll offer in the future.
7. Do you live in the small (up to 90 sq. meters) or big space? And how you feel about it?
We have a 55 square meter apartment in Copenhagen, that sort of started this whole custom making the furniture in our apartments. We almost custom made the entire interior for that apartment and it's been a source of endless inspiration because of the small space. We've moved to a bigger house now - we've also added to the family, so the small space wasn't the most optimal option anymore.
8. What can you advise readers of KleinSpace in terms of decoration and search of items for the house?
Buy things you think are beautiful and buy sustainable products rather than disposable ones. It's always a better choice, environmentally wise and in terms of quality of products. If you're torn between items because of the price, go for the quality. If your space is super small, opt in for multi-purpose items. It's great to be able to transform an object into another use if you need to.
I can not agree more with them, as their products and design are absolutely gorgeous and is a great fit for any type of the space. I wish them all the best in their future and also a great success with the shop !
