Baxter's Lodge (1940), the University of Sydney. Looks a lot older than it is. The old Messenger's Lodge built on the main drag west out of town in 1883 was demolished in 1939 and some of the Sydney Sandstone was salvaged and used to build this lodge on the same site. It was the home of the University Yeoman, George Baxter. Police were prohibited from entering campus, so Baxter was the official "enforcer", breaking up student brawls etc and providing security for contentious meetings. He retired in 1956. Last resident was the Uni's supervisor of electrical works, Ted Lockwood, who died in 1986. The building then became a variety of offices and meeting rooms, and at one stage housed the University's prized video tape collection. Currently vacant. Camperdown.
