“An important factor that shaped Neo-Bengal ideology was its association with the Japanese art critic and scholar Okakura who advocated Pan-Asianism as a means of resisting western imperialism. Among his Pioneering efforts to further the study of oriental art and foster cooperation across Asia was publishing Kokka, a magazine dedicated to art. The magazine’s uniqueness was in its high quality woodblock prints of art works. Featured here is a Kokka woodblock print of Nandalal Bose’s well- known painting Sati. Prints such as these were made for the exhibitions held at the Indian Society of Oriental Art,” via Piramal museum of art.
