#oilpunk

Oilpunk is a sub-genre of science fiction that typically features oil-powered machinery,[1] especially in a setting inspired by post-industrialized Western civilization during the 21st century. Oilpunk works are often set in an alternative history of the 20th century's American Bush era or Canadian "Tar Sands", in a pending-apocalyptic past during which oil power is in mainstream use, or in a fantasy world that similarly employs oil power. Oilpunk's perhaps most recognizable features are anachronistic technologies or retro-futuristic inventions as people in the 20th century might have envisioned them, and is likewise rooted in the era's perspective on fashion, culture, architectural style, and art.
