This reminds me of old but gold Orochimaru. Ohtsutsuki's technique Sukuna Hikona is kinda similar to Orochumaru's old way of acquiring a new vessel for his immortality except Orohimaru's a bit scientific.
Karma, i guess, is not similar to the Cursed seal of Heaven.
1. Karma drawing has a maze-like pattern while the Cursed seal is like a splattered ink
2. The cursed seal has different levels and it grants the receiver an increased chakra level.
3. The cursed seal, depending on the level, deforms the user's body to show wings, horns or whatsoever while Karma, when fully activated, erases the data of the vessel and transforms it completely to an Ohtsutsuki.
Anyway, we'll know more as the manga progresses.

PS. Sasuke is like speaking from experience. Maybe he has a big role to play in completely stopping the karma's effect on Boruto (like what Itachi did to him...not the ways -sealing Orochumaru using his sword of Totsuka- though, just the idea) or training Boruto how to use his own power to overcome the Karma effects or teach Boruto how to utilize the Karma to his advantage. Or are they going to travel again? 🤔 whatever, im not really a Boruto expert
