Dean was only 14 when he was put into a psychiatric hospital by his sister. He fought and argued with her but there was no changing her mind. She said that he was "talking crazy about seeing monsters all the time", but it was true. He did see monsters and demons. It was no coincidence that their mother died in a random house fire. How could Deanna explain that one? The only reasonable explanation Dean could think of was monsters. He saw a man with yellow eyes! How is that not screaming monster?
Dean never really left his room. He really only left to eat out in the day room and when the facility had searches in each room when a patient slipped up. Then his room was a disaster and Dean hated it when people messed his things up. The kid had a short temper after all.
