New York Advice?
I'm going to NYC in a few short weeks and would love some ideas. I've spent some time there, but it's been ages since I got an actual trip to Manhattan. This is a kid-free weekend which we've NEVER DONE before.Â
What I've already done/am familiar with:
Times Square
The big dept stores (Macy's Saks, Barney's, etc.), FAO Schwarz, 30 Rock, the Public Library, etc.Â
The Met Museum of Art (not all of it, obviously, but lots, multiple visits)
MOMA (although it wasn't the full exhibition at the time, I think)
The Frick (god, I love that place)
Walking through (parts of) Central Park
Walking around in SoHo, the East Village, all over Midtown and parts of the Upper East Side, some in Chelsea, although I think (IIRC) the furthest south I've walked might be Canal St.
Chez Josephine in Hell's Kitchen, which I highly recommend for just sort of a ridiculous night out
ABC Carpet & Home which is just amazing
We just want to do a lot of walking, and eat in some good places that we don't have to wait a gazillion hours to get a table at (but we live in downtown Toronto so it's not like we can't get good food at home), and maybe see something or other.Â
We don't really want to do anything like Ellis Island which will take up most of a day (we'll be back to NYC, and with our kids).
We've never been to Brooklyn - is it worth it? Where would we even go? We live in Canadian Hipster Ground Zero - I see Bon Iver lookalikes serving artisanal coffee every day. I know how Louie CK feels when he gets a coffee. Maybe it wouldn't feel so wildly different.Â
How hard is it to sort out tickets to something like UCB? Any tips? Is there a great website to figure out whether there's something playing we want to see? We'd go to theatre for something really interesting. Seeing live music would be amazing, but maybe ambitious (we might be feeling unstructured and lazy).Â
Anyone feel like planning a dream itinerary for us? Friday midday to Sunday midday in June, GO.
