I was curious if you knew about buying magnets and getting the right strength ones please? I was thinking of using magnets to attach Keith's (Voltron) sheath and blade to his belt. One or two magnets would be glued to the inside of the sheath, which is made our of foam, and the other magnet would be sewn into the belt. I worry about not getting magnets that would have enough pull/strength through the foam to hold everything securely to the belt, especially at a vertical angle. Thank you so much.
When it comes to magnets, neodymium magnets are the way to go. Inexpensive, variety of sizes, strong as hell. We order ours from K&J Magnetics but you can buy them from anywhere.
Ideally, the best connection is going to be with the magnets directly connecting to each other without anything in the way. If you can cut into the foam/belt and glue the magnets in so they can connect directly, do that instead. Otherwise go for some larger magnets or stack up a bunch of smaller magnets. This is going to require some experimenting on your end to see what works best.
If you want to math things out, K&J provides a calculator so you can determine the pull force needed and the magnets that will work.Â
