I'm just imagining Malfunction AU Kinger and Caine (in a different version of the AU where they're just brain scans like in canon), watching and reacting to the slideshow at the end of episode 9 alongside all the other humans Kinger seeing who the real Caine grew up to be. Caine finding out his human self became an older brother to two sisters. The both of them seeing human Queenie (Destiny) still alive and married to Grant, and all of them being a big happy family together It's an extremely bittersweet moment for them both. Later that night, once everyone has gone to bed, Kinger can't sleep, so he goes for a walk. He ends up finding Caine sitting on the couch in front of the projector screen. He'd been re-watching that one specific part of the slideshow, over and over again, for who knows how long. Kinger goes over and sits next to him. He carefully takes the remote from Caine. His son had been gripping it so tightly that his hand was shaking, but he doesn't fight back. He just continues to stare ahead at the screen as Kinger finally turns off the projector. They both sit in silence for a while. Maybe a few minutes. Maybe an hour. Who knows? Then slowly, they start to talk. They talk, they cry and overall they mourn the lives they now know they can never go back to. Despite that, they also promise each other to make the best of their new lives in the circus, and to always be there for each other and the others
