BY   THE   WANING   LIGHT,   HE   SNEERS   IN   A   GRISLY   LAUGH,   *   baring   a   bramble   crown   of   artificial   teeth.   perhaps   the   truth   is   an   uncut   colocynth,   too   hefty   in   its   full   glory   to   swallow   ---   or   perhaps   it,   too,   is   a   lie,   an   illusionist   consumed   by   his   own   vanishing   act?   is   there   a   concrete   answer   to   the   undying   question   ---   what   is   humanity,   from   where   does   it   grow?   nonetheless,   he   levels   his   gaze   with   her   own,   eyes   bereft   of   benevolence.   in   a   world   drowned   in   sorrow   empathy   is   merely   a   silhouette,   a   featurless   concept.   ❛   do   tell.   which   part   of   you   makes   you   more   human   than   them?   where   does   your   soul   reside?   ❜   he   points   to   the   heap   of   scattered   limbs,   their   parts   now   worthles,   ravaged.   why   can’t   you   see   this   gruesome   sight   for   what   it   is   ---   a   statue   of   sin?   he   thinks,   absently,   his   curiosity   a   snarling   beast.   is   it   that   you   are   blind?  had   you   been   blinded   and   are   living   your   life   devoid   of   sight?
