It started with grumbling. Muttered and incoherent words that roused Groot from his sleep. When he sat up and yawned, the thrashing started. First a tick in one foot, then a jarring, then Rocket's body shook and his voice rose; vague yells as he wrenched and fought violently with an assailant that wasn't there.
With each yell Groot shrank and took a step back, wide brown eyes staring in fear at his friend as he watched him seem to devolve right there before his eyes. And soon it was too much for the little flora. He turned and raced for the door, racing for someone who would make him feel safe again.
Gamora's room was only a little ways away from the one he and Rocket shared, and perhaps that had been by design. Because it was the first one that he reached.
Whimpering like the child he was, Groot hurried as fast as his little legs could carry him to where the green skinned woman slept; crawling in beside her and shaking her as best he could.
