Steve hadn't been liking much of his life lately. Ever since Barb had disappeared and Nancy had broken up with him, his life had just spiralled. First he'd lost his popularity, and while he was still somewhat liked by the ladies, he had then met Billy Hargrove which had made things even worse.
The guy had had a habit of being in his face, showing up in his life-guard outfit at Scoops, which by far had been the worst summer job ever, with his grins and his cheekiness and heaps of girls following his every move. At first, Steve had thought he was struggling because he was jealous of Billy.
But things changed when Steve heard about the fire at the mall and the people had died there. And he realised just why Billy Hargrove had bothered him so much. But he was gone now, and Steve, Steve was left struggling with emotions that he didn't know what to make of.
As a result, he had locked himself in his room to the point that his parents had actually worried about the young man. So they'd reached out for his brother, clueless as to what to do with the situation and hoping that maybe their eldest son was going to be able to get through to the other.
