     the music echoes through the entire palace, even during their walk through the gardens, the melody can still be heard faintly. briala’s lips curl into a smile, she’s ENJOYING the time spent with jan’sa, even if she knows it’s short lived. she can’t just... leave the palace and join the inquisition. not while in a position of enough power to make things better for all of the elves of halamshiral. but does that mean she doesn’t get to enjoy the company of the woman who put her there? she doesn’t THINK so. 

                               “marly, y’ clumsy fuck-”

                        but there’s no venom to her words. in fact they’re laced with such a sickly sweet tone that caelan’s surprised she hasn’t given herself toothache yet. still, she kicks at marly, who’s sitting in the dust and the dirt.

       she has to admit, this whole journey isn’t as sturdy as she thought it would be. the small boat that she’s borrowed isn’t as seaworthy as it had looked, and part of her is worried that they’re going to end up in the deep-looking water. 

       normally, she wouldn’t be worried, but she doesn’t want to lose the ring that’s buried in her pocket.

           jan’sa is still leaning against her desk, and once leliana stands up to join her, she finds the elf’s lips against her cheek - a sweet and calming gesture that quells her fears, at least for now. there’s a comfort that surrounds the inquisitor, a calming energy that leliana finds herself craving. 

           the nightingale leans in, pressing lips to jan’sa’s in a quick, yet soft kiss.

       they’ve been listening to the radio for hours now, in the afterglow of another heated argument, and it’s the only thing they can manage to do together that doesn’t involve snide comments ( mostly from evan’s side ). and they’ve been QUIET, until a song comes on that clearly strikes a heavy chord with evan. 

       it takes them a long way back, back to the dugout and nights spent carefree with all of those that had found themselves homeless in diamond city. they stayed until closing time almost every night, dancing to whatever played on the battered old jukebox. 

       evan looks over at marly, who seems somewhat unaffected by the music, at least not in the way that they are. despite anything they’d say otherwise, there’s LOVE in the way that they look at their newfound companion. perhaps that’s why things had been so... frustrating recently. evan can’t fall in love, not with their future already so clearly mapped out. 

       but, that doesn’t mean they can’t have a little FUN. 

       “hey, dumbass. dance with me.” they wait a beat before adding to their request.
