I'm finally getting to the latest issue of Offscreen, and the cover interview is with Jenny Odell. I had no idea who she was until I started reading the interview. Turns out, she's the author of How to Do Nothing, which is apparently kind of a big deal book.
The last thing I need is another book to read, but then I read this quote:
The very fact that a book about doing nothing would feel necessary speaks to today's culture of always needing something to show for our time, and the way our lives are sold back to us as products to be optimized.
I don't know about the products to be optimized part. I don't feel that so much as I'm just a Virgo who feels like I must always be productive and must be doing something or I'm wasting valuable time.
Whatever the reason, this interview is making me want to read the book. Sigh.
