SUMMARY - Cain is the first person to be born naturally and the fourth person to ever exist. He lives in the biblical equivalent of the stone age with his parents, Adam and Eve, aswell as his younger brother and the bane of his existence, Abel. One day, he runs away after a fit of anger while dealing with, in his mind, an unjust god.
NOTES - I deserve to be publicly executed for this wait period. Charlie is mostly just reffered to her full name or the nickname that the reader gave her (Lottie) because of my headcannon that 'Charlie' only started being her default nickname after her toddler years. Also this takes place after a time skip if you couldn't tell lol.
TAGS - Fem!Reader. One use of Y/N. No more forbidden romance they're finally away from the people forbidding it. Cain and reader being stupidly in love. Seriously they're so cringe. Cain and reader are both pretty horrible people when it comes to their treatment of Abel. No warnings expect for a vague mention of murder once.

Cain watched as you stood over the small wooden cot, mind completley occupied with the tiny nephilim inside.
Lilith was resting, and Lucifer didn't seem keen to leave her side, so the two begged you and him to watch the baby for a few hours.
"What's her name again?"
Cain pushed himself off the wall he was leaning against, walking up besides you and peering into the bassinet.
The infant inside had white skin, her cheeks a blood red resembling Lucifer's. She didn't have much hair, but he could see that the few strands in the middle of her scalp were blonde.
"Charlotte. Isn't she adorable? I've never seen a baby in real life before, they're so cute!"
One of your hands dropped down to brush Charlotte's cheek with your thumb, the baby twitched slightly, turning her hand.
"Yeah, untill they start crying in the middle of the night and wake everyone up."
He remembered Abel, how Adam would curse to himself every night while Eve frantically tried to comfort the crying infant, it wasn't a fun time.
"Oh, please. You're so negative, I have my little sister and that's all that matters!"
"We'll see."
You scoffed, removing your hand away from the crib and crossing your arms in annoyance.
"I will personally comfort her every night without complaint!"
Cain simply smiled a knowing smirk, making you grunt and turn your attention back to the cot.
"Don't listen to the evil man spouting nonsense, Lottie. We will be best friends!"
Cain sighed audibly, making you give him yet another pointed look.
"I'm just saying, I was ecstatic when my mother told me i'd get a little sibling all those years ago."
You gasped, grabbing one of the spare blankets next to the bassinet and throwing it at him, he yelped in suprise, before breaking out in laughter.
"Screw you! Me and and my baby sister will love eachother!"
You scolded, Cain only lifted his eyebrows before leaning in for a kiss, intending to cheer you up.
He was interrupted the sound of crying.
"Oh, look what you've done! You woke her up!"
You rushed over to pick up the swaddled child, shushing Charlotte untill she calmed down.
With the previous romantic mood he had tried to set ruined, Cain figured it wouldn't hurt to get some things off his chest, especially since you were already annoyed by him - there was really nothing to lose.
"Do you think she'll cause any trouble when she grows up?"
You turned to look at him, narrowing your eyes.
"You mean, like how I snuck onto earth, met you and almost died?"
"I was trying to be nice, but fine, like you."
You paused at that, staring off into the distance, almost forgetting about the nephilim in hands.
"... She'll be fine."
"Sure."
He sighed, walking off towards the door lazily.
"Your parents are quiet, should we, like, check on them?"
"No, they'll be fine too."
"You've been saying that alot."
Another moment of silence passed, you slowly turned back to Cain, the corners of your mouth subtly twitching up in mischeif.
"If you're bored, I know someone who'd love to meet her brother-in-law."
Cain immediatley paused.
When Lilith first announced she was pregnant, he pretended to be thrilled - she was his mother-in-law afterall. Truth be told, Cain had never been fond of babies, he had only had experience with Abel, and Abel hadn't been easy.
He knew that he probably wouldn't get too close to the new member of the family, babies weren't his area of expertise, he contributed in other ways.
He hadn't thought that you would force him into bonding.
Before he could even finish his thought process, you had halway jumped on top of him, Cain pulled back, but instinctively reached his hands out when you pretended to drop the baby.
"Aww, you two look adorable! I need this scene framed above my bedframe."
Cain scowled, pursing his lips in conflicting.
Slowly, he looked down at the kid. Her eyes were closed in peaceful sleep, the tight swaddle restraining her limbs not bothering her in the slightest.
"Say something!"
"She's a baby, she won't understand."
You rolled your eyes, scoffing at his indiffrence.
"You're such an ice queen, you're holding someone who'll be in your life forever, and you don't even want to introduce yourself."
"I'll introduce myself when she says her first word."
"I'm holding you up on that."
A few beats passed, gaining the courage to move, Cain extended his arms to hand Charlotte back to you.
"Please take her."
"Fine."
You took the infant back, smiling down at her before setting her back in her cot.
"We're never having children, you're terrible at this."
"That is okay with me."
You gave him a pointed look, walking past him to look out of the window in the nursery.
He followed you, placing a hand on your shoulder before turning to stare out the window.
The infrastructure and population of hell had changed drastically in just a few hundred years. It was strange, honestly, watching the sinners that were descendants of the siblings that his parents had after his banishment.
You broke the silence.
"Can I ask you something?"
"Sure."
"Do you ever regret it?"
Cain paused. That was the last thing the expected to hear.
"Killing Abel? Or meeting you?"
You shrugged, resting your hands on the windowsill.
"Both. I guess."
"It's complicated. Meeting you? Never. Killing Abel? Sometimes I feel like I unnecessarily fucked my life up, like I should've thought about it more."
You nodded, understanding. After a few more seconds passed, you spoke up again.
"I'm glad you don't regret meeting me. I've never regretted meeting you."
Cain smiled, his hand on your shoulder traveling to the small of your back.
The kiss was sweet and simple, making up for the one that Charlotte interrupted.
Speaking of interruptions.
Lucifer's voice cut through the air in the hall outside of the nursery, muffled through the door but still audible.
"Cain! Y/N! Lilith woke up, take the baby and come."
You two smiled at eachother, you patted Cain on the chest before heading back over to the crib to pick your sister up, Cain's gaze traveled back to stare at the window, his smile wavering.

"... What?"
Your confused expression almost made Cain's grin falter, but he didn't give up yet. He had been talking fast, you were probably just confused.
"I mean... You suggested using the rock on my father, but I can't do that! Abel is a weak, useless specimen, I could make way more use of ridding the world of him!"
You sighed, clearly not amused by the idea. Cain looked down at the ground, why were you acting so weird? What was the difference between Abel and Adam in your mind? A feeling of dread overtook his stomach.
"I thought that you understood me, but I was wrong once more. It was fun while it lasted."
He turned around, you wasted no time jn rushing over to him, grabbing his hand and trying to get him to look at you.
"Cain, no! I just... I guess I don't understand why you hate your brother so much. I've always wanted a sibling, I thought that humans were better at... loving?"
You paused near the end of your explanation, looking down at your hand wrapped around his for a brief second before continuing.
"Look, I don't know, I just have a bad feeling about this. Can we wait on it, for atleast a few days?"
Cain stared back at you, his narrowed eyes finally returning to their normal shape.
"Fine, but we don't have anything to do or talk about anyways. We know eachother's life stories."
"Aha! Actually, I do have an idea, if you'd like it..."
You trailed off, looking off to the side shyly.
"Just spit it out."
"Maybeyoucouldteachmehowtoswim-"
You blurted it out so fast that Cain almost didn't even catch it, almost.
"Wait, wait. Swimming? Are you serious? That's one of the more useless skills. You don't even know how to start a fire yet!"
You pouted, looking at him with exaggerated begging.
"Please? It looks so cool when you do it, there's no big bodies of water in hell, atleast not any that I know of."
"Ugh. Fine-"
Like always, whenever he agreed to your stupid requests, you tackled him to the ground in a suffocating hug, despite not knowing you for long, he was used to it.
You did something new, today, though. Just as he was about to slime out of your grip, you pursed your lips, bringing your face up to his.
He quickly put a hand up to your nose, backing away in... what was he feeling, excatly?
"Woah, what on earth are you doing?"
"Ehm... I was going to kiss you, my parents do it to one another, it's just how you show that you care about someone! ... I think?"
While you pondered, he pushed you off of him, standing up to his full height and staring down at your kneeling form with offense.
"Never do that again, that would probably give me some kind of disase, do you know what would happen if I caught something from hell?"
He told you off, you only looked unamused. You stood up aswell, crossing your arms over your chest.
"You're telling me that you don't know what a kiss is? Do you not have parents? Do you not watch them interact?"
"Uhhh.. I do! But they've never 'kissed' before, that sounds gross!"
You stared at him with a furrowed brow, some kind of mix of pity and annoyance that made his stomach flutter strangely.
"Look, I promise it feels nice. My parents kissed me all the time when I was little! Can I just show you, pleaseeee?"
"Oh, not this again. Fine!"
You smiled, and instead of tackling him, you leaned it, once again coming closer to his face.
You pressed your lips against his, holding them like that for a few seconds before pulling away, looking at him expectantly.
"How was it? It was great, right?"
Cain felt strangely dizzy, not like he had hit his head, but the type of dizzy he'd fell whenever it was particularly hot. He took a long, deep sigh, looking away from you.
"Pfffttt... Stupid."
He wasn't fooling anyone, you could see the blush on his face.
"Really?"
"Yes, 'really'- Ugh, you're so annoying! Lets just go find a lake."
That seemed to distract you, atleast, your grin widened and you skipped right past him.
"Yay! I can't wait, oh, tell me how the water feels, would you?"
You leaned against him as he caught up with you, which made him look away again. This was going to be a long swim lesson.
-
Cain sat in his parent's tent, forcing himself to keep his eyes open as he waited for his mother (hopefully it'd be his mother first) to come back, from where ever she was.
Teaching you how to swim hadn't been easy, you'd only managed to master the basics in the multiple hours he had spent giving you advice and yelling at you to actually swim instead of paddling.
At one point, while he was adjusting your form, you panicked and attempted to grab him - only half succeding, you grabbed his tunic and ripped it.
By that point, he could tell that he and you both needed a nap, so you said your goodbye and disappeared.
That was the reason he was here, even though he had already changed into a new tunic almost half an hour ago, the one he previously had one was his favorite, and he wanted it back. Eve made the family's clothes, so Cain assumed that she could also fix them.
Just as he was a blink away from drifting off again, someone entered the tent, Cain's head snapped to the entrance, letting out a sigh of relief when he saw his mother.
"Cain? What are you doing here?"
Cain stood up, looking down at the ripped tunic in his hands.
"This got ruined, I wanted to ask if you could fix it?"
Eve looked at the tear in the fabric with suspicion before taking it from her son, walking over to a spot on the floor and sitting down.
"I suppose so, it might take a while, though."
Cain nodded before turning around, ready to leave, reluctantly, he stopped himself just as his hand teached up to grab the curtain covering the entrance.
"Mom, how did you know that you were in love with dad?"
The question escaped him before he had time to even think about his words, his head snapped back, just to find Eve staring down at the ground.
Her head quickly shot up, she smiled, but it didn't quite reach her eyes
"Oh, honey. Why do you ask?"
"I... I don't know, i'm just curious."
Eve's already strained smile dimmed ever more, she sighed, looking down at the tunic in her hands.
"Well... It's hard to say, I was created for your father, so I loved him from the first moment that I laid my eyes on him. You'll understand when God finally gifts you your own wife."
Cain listened, committing his mother's words into his memory. Without saying anything else, he left the tent.
Walking the short distance from his parents' shared tent to his and his brother's tent, Cain tried not to think too much, deciding to sleep on the strange feelings overriding his brain.
He threw himself onto the dried grass that made his mattress, immediatley feeling something sharp underneath him.
He quickly sat up, feeling around the bed just to find your sharp rock. He calmed down at the sight of it, laying back down with the gift in his grip.
Holding something that had once been in your hands helped calm his nerves, strangely enough.
Cain's strong hold on the weapon loosened as he ventured off into the dream realm, the contrast of the dull grey against the soft yellow grass making him think about the nature of your creation just before he his eyes closed.

NOTES - all of the tags from chapter 1 still stand, apart from GN!reader. Samael is mentioned to be the original name of Lucifer in Jewish apocalyptic literature. Cain and reader are both incredibly biased in their recountings of the story of creation, the reader's recounting is almost word for word the one from the show because Lilith created that storybook for her children.

Cain sighed as he finally made it home, looking at the two mammoth bone tents in the distance. It was hard to make them out, night had already fallen long ago.
For the first time in his life, Cain's heart finally felt the thrill of excitement. He still couldn't believe what had happened in the empty field.
He made it to his shared tent with Abel, his father's snores from the other tent echoing through the night air.
He lifted up the curtain covering the entrance and stepped in, Abel was already asleep on his mat. Typical, even God made the time to check on Cain, but his own brother couldn't? It took every bit of restraint in Cain's body to not strangle the lazy idiot.
Cain lied down on his bed (the pile of dried grass Adam helped him put toghether) and pondered about everything that had happened.
In a way, his sacrifice not being accepted had been worth it. If he had just continued working the fields after presenting his offering, he would've never met the... what did you say you were again? Right, nephilim.
He felt his heart flutter recalling the interaction, who were you? Were you supposed to be a gift, an apology from God? Cain liked the idea of having his own wife, his mother did whatever his father said, it would be nice to have someone who'd always support him through and through.
Cain loved his father, but being his favorite didn't come with alot of perks. He'd get the occasional compliment, and he got verbally abused much less then Abel. The farmer smiled faintly at all the memories of Adam trying to toughen up Abel and failing miserably.
Abel, however, was not lonely. He was their mother's favorite, and ofcourse God had probably debated sending the family back to paradise just so Abel could be happy.
Putting the thoughts of Abel and God aside, Cain fell asleep trying to recreate how he felt when you leaned closer to him while planning your next meet-up.
-
"Cain? The sun's been out for hours. Get up and go help your father."
Cain yawned at the sound of his mother's gentle voice, quickly sitting up. Eve was outside the tent, but her silhouette painted her shadow onto the fabric of the tent's walls.
"Yeah, yeah. I'm coming."
He stood up, grabbing the sickle besides his bed and running past Abel's empty mat to get out of the tent. Usually, he'd wash up in the river before getting to work, but Adam was probably already in a bad mood today, so he'd have to post-pone that.
Cain walked the rest of the way towards the grain field he and his father were working on. Adam was muttering to himself, and as Cain got closer, he could even make out some words.
"Damn that woman, damn them all, I could've been in paradise-"
"Father?"
"AH! Goddamnit, Cain! Are you trying to kill me?"
Adam sneered, turning back around and continued cutting the stalks with his scythe. Cain rolled his eyes, running up to join his father in working.
They cut the wheat stalks at the base on silence, but every few seconds, Cain would turn his head to find his father's yellow eyes narrowing at him in suspicion. After the fifth or so time Cain caught his father staring, Adam finally decided to speak up.
"Where on earth were you last night? The woman was worried, she wanted to go look for you."
Cain felt his cheeks heat up, he couldn't let his family find out about you! What if they thought he had gone crazy? Or worse, what if they ask to meet you and you end up getting along with Abel?!
"I- uh... Me and Abel presented some offerings, you know how that goes. I took a walk to cool off, I guess I lost track of time."
Adam blinked in unamusement, but the suspicion left his features. He sighed, continuing to collect the grain.
"You can't just run away whenever you're upset, Cain, we still had work left. I need you here, God knows that your brother and the woman are no help."
Cain agreed with that, but he wasn't happy. Why should he have to pay for Abel's weakness?
"Fine. Can I go now?"
"Scram, for all I care. Go down to the river, you stink."
What an asshole, maybe it was more emotionally profitable to be Eve's favorite, Cain thought.
He walked away with the wheat stalks he had managed to collect, giving them to his mother before taking his father's advice and going down to the closest stream.
After washing up and eating some random berries he had found near the water, his thoughts drifted back to you.
He bit his lip, looking back at the direction that led to his family before narrowing his eyes in determination and walking in the opposite direction.
It was hard to remember where the meadow he met you was, considering that he had found it while in a blind rage, but after walking through the woods for sometime, he stumbled across the not yet familliar scenery.
You were nowhere to be found, but he decided to wait. It was you who suggested meeting up again anyways, there was no way you forgot about him! Nuh uh, you wouldn't dare. Honestly, he was doing you a favour by showing up!
While pondering his greatness, he heard shuffling from a nearby tree, he looked up, only to find a bird resting on a branch.
As he was about to go back to thinking, he suddenly realised why Adam was always so mad when Cain sneaked up on him. A strange, circular void with a red undertone opened up mere feet away from him. Thankfully, instead of him getting murdered by an unknown ancient entity, you fell out of the void, and it disappeared behind you.
"Ouch, I really have to learn how to make these portals closer to the ground."
Portals? Was that what they were called? Cain stood up, walking up untill his feet were right besides your head. You noticed him, and once again, your face brightened up.
"Bestfriend, you're here!"
You quickly stood up, going in for a hug, but Cain put a stop to that. He held a hand up, signaling for you to stop.
"Not so fast. I have questions, and you're going to answer them this time."
Your smile dropped, but your overall demeanor mostly stayed cheerful. You pulled away, putting your hands on your hips.
"Ofcourse! What is it?"
Cain hummed, tapping his chin with his hand as he wondered where he should even start.
"Firstly where do you come from?"
You giggled like he had asked the most ridiculous question in the world.
"From Hell, duh! Where else?"
That made his stop dead in his tracks. You weren't a naive angel who was secretley coming down here? Or his meant-to-be wife that God was slowly exposing him to? He swallowed the lump forming in his throat, his fists clenching subconsiously as he mustered up another question.
"How can you be from Hell? No one has died yet, my mother and father are the first man and woman."
"Your father is the first man, your mother, however, is not an original."
You corrected him smugly, like he had any idea what you were talking about. His mouth twisted into a low sneer as he grabbed you by the collar of your tunic.
"Don't talk about my mother like that, you demon!"
Cain usually didn't care much for his mother, but he felt like he had to defend himself in any way possible.
"Woah! Hey, hey- Calm down, man! I didn't mean to be rude, don't you know the story of creation?"
You assured, grabbing his arm that held your tunic. He narrowed his eyes in suspicion, but loosened his grip.
"Uh, yeah, my father told me it. God created my mother and father in paradise, gave them one rule and my mother broke it, so he kicked them out of paradise and punished them with work."
He summarized the story that Adam had reluctantly muttered out to Cain when he was 12, it took alot of begging to get his father to speak up about it, so Cain knew he'd never forget it.
You tilted your head in confusion, before looking away, half in akwardness and half in pity.
"... Your father is a liar."
"WHAT?!"
"Hey- No! Please, just let me explain the true story. My mother tells me it all the time, she knows what happened!"
Cain's eyes narrowed once more, with a scoff, he reluctantly pushed you away.
"Pfttt- Sure, lets see it."
He spat out, crossing his arms and looking away. You, on the other hand, were already preparing the stage. You picked up two rocks off of the ground.
"Ok... First, God created the earth, and on the 6th day of creation, God created the first two humans - Adam and Lilith!"
You held up the two rocks to represent the two humans, Cain's gaze snapped towards you at the last word, seriously, already making stuff up? Women really were stupid.
Before he could interrupt you, you continued.
"Adam and Lilith lived in harmony as equals, untill Adam started to demand control. Lilith refused to submit, and after an argument, she fled the garden."
Cain blinked in unamusement. He sighed dramatically, throwing his head back in boredom as you continued.
"Meanwhile, in heaven, there lived an Angel by the name of Samael. He was a dreamer, heaven found his ideas dangerous and unrealistic, but when he saw Lilith's independence, he knew he had to visit her. The two met, and they fell deeply in love."
You dropped the rock that represented Adam, picking up a new one to represent.. what was his name again? Whatever, it didn't matter, you were just spouting bullshit anyways.
"On the other hand, Heaven created a new wife for Adam - Eve. Samael and Lilith wished to share the magic of free will with humanity, so they offered Eve the fruit of knowledge, and she gladly accepted."
Cain's eyes reluctantly stayed glued to you as you spoke, how far were you taking this little fairy tale? It was starting to get too detailed for his liking.
"When Eve ate the fruit of knowledge, the root of all evil found it's way to the core of the earth. Heaven panicked, they kicked Adam and Eve out of paradise, cursing them to a life of hard work and painful childbirth. Samael and Lilith were both exiled, and Heaven dammned them to the dark void of evil they had created."
Your voice dropped as you finished, dropping both of the rocks and looking back at him with a scarily serious expression. Cain shivered, but didn't back down.
"Yeah, right. Prove it!"
You frowned, crossing your arms over your chest in offense.
"I am, proof, smart ass! I am the child of Lilith and Samael - well, he prefers Lucifer now"
Cain felt his heart stop beating in his chest, was that true? He couldn't believe it - he refused to believe it. He gulped, trying to stay calm.
"I'm not falling for it, my father would never lie to me!"
"Yes, he would! Why would he tell you about his first wife who cheated on him and the man who she cheated with?"
Cain felt his face heat up, still, he refused to believe it.
"Shut up!"
"Don't tell me to shut up, you shut up!"
"My father was right about you demon scum, how dare you even talk to me? I bet you're just trying to drag me down with you!"
Now, it was your turn to be shocked. You stared at him, mouth wide open, before your lips pressed into a thin line. You turned around, your shoulders slouched. When you spoke up, your voice was quiet and quivering, an unwelcome change from the optimism he had already attached to you.
"Well, dad was right about you humans then. Forget everything, Cain."
Cain breathed heavily, and before his conscious could make him feel anything, he turned in the opposite direction and began running back home.

Cain sighed as he slowly walked past the flock of sheep eating and relaxing on the empty plain of grass, his eyes scanning the area for a human figure.
The basket in his hands was full with the best food he had been able to grow, usually, the offerings he made were rushed and poorly put toghether, but he finally had a reason to try and please the all-knowing creator.
Meetings in the meadow with you had become a daily part of his routine, even when Adam threatened to find his secret, the hang-outs continued.
The information he had gotten from his mother wasn't great, but it was all he could work with, considering that Adam wouldn't talk to him anymore, and Abel most definetley had a few years untill he could even start thinking of asking God for a wife.
"When you're in love, you'll know", that's what Eve's advice boiled down to. It was barely of any help!
Cain liked you, he knew he did. You were the only person he could be himself around, but he'd be lying if he said that you weren't a confusing female specimen.
The "kiss" you had given him kept him up all night, you had told him that your parents kissed, that would imply that you were romantically attracted to him, but then again, you had said that your parents kissed you when you were younger, that meant that kisses were also for platonic affection.
This was all way to baffling, could his parents not have taught him more?
Well, enough of that. He had made the smart decision to ask God for some advice, after getting on his good side, ofcourse.
The brief rush of determination and happiness he had felt was interuppted by Abel approaching, a butchered sheep hung over his shoulder.
"Woah, Cain, that looks great! I'm sure the Lord will accept that!"
Cain's face contorted into disgust and dismay, he looked down at the younger boy before reluctantly speaking up, his words slow and carefully chosen.
"... Yes, he will. Lets go present our gifts."
Abel's smile didn't waver, he strolled alongside Cain, blabbering about something no one cared about.
His grating voice would not stop Cain, however, nothing would.
Abel would have to thank you when Cain convinced you to stay with him on earth, your insistence helped delay his doom.
Cain's good mood lasted for longer then usual, but ofcourse, something ruined it like always.
This time, however, it was not a member of his family getting on his nerves.
The ritual started off with Yahweh praising Abel, nothing unusual. His offerings were accepted immediatley, even the smoke from the fire the younger son had used to dispose of his sacrifice floated in the air for an unnatural amount of time.
When it finally came to be Cain's turn, he barely recieved any words, and those words that the creator did spare to Cain only made all of the patience that the eldest son had left shatter.
"What?!"
Cain's voice rung out through the empty field, the ancient tree where sacrifices were presented glowed with an illuminating shine. The voice that echoed through the branches spoke again.
"One good sacrifice is not enough to be blessed, Cain. Your laziness is a constant and I have no doubt that it will persist."
Cain's vision blurred, whether it was from tears or anger was unclear to him.
"Your sudden drive must have a cause, what is you want? I can hear it, but I shall not grant it."
Abel's concerned and pitiful gaze burned through Cain's head, he couldn't take it any longer. While the deep voice continued lecturing him, Cain turned around and ran for the woods.

For most of his life, Cain found it upsetting that no one would follow him and console him after his various meltdowns, but for once he found it in himself to be grateful that Abel was too much of a pussy to run away from God.
Your tighs were soft and comfortable, so were your hands in his hair.
He couldn't remember how he had gotten into this situation excactly, with you sitting on a large rock near the lake where he had taught you to swim and his head in your lap, but he wasn't complaining. All he knew was that you were already waiting in the meadow when he ran into it, and that you had been there to catch him when he collapsed into your arms, sobbing.
After what felt like forever, Cain's breathing slowed down, and the hand that was petting his head slowed down before it stopped completley.
"Are you ready to talk about it?"
You asked softly, Cain only groaned, lifting his head out of your lap and looking up at you, still high and graceful on your rock.
"If God already hates me, would ridding myself of Abel really have such disastrous consequnces?"
You only smiled at him, amused.
"You again with your sibling fueds, I thought that you'd recieved a prophecy about your death or something, you almost gave me a heart attack!"
"I'm serious!"
Cain shouted, face reddening at your refusal to take him seriously. You laughed whole-heartedly.
"And so am I! Cain, sweetie, if you want revenge on Abel that badly, just do it. I admit that my fantasies about how humans interact with their kins clouded my judgement. If he upsets you, then get rid of him. It's not a big deal."
Cain listened to you speak, his face slowly shifting to confusion. What had happened to you? Did a clone kidnap and replace you.
"Aslong as God dosen't see, it will be fine."
You leaned down and grabbed the pointy rock you had created for your friend, gently opening his fist and placing the weapon into his palm.
Cain swallowed the lump in his throat, slowly standing up to his full height. Without another word, he walked past you, but for the first time ever; your eyes following him as he walked away brought him a sense of uneasiness rather then comfort.
SUMMARY - Cain is the first person to be born naturally and the fourth human to ever exist. He lives in the biblical equivalent of the stone age with his parents, Adam and Eve, aswell as his younger brother and the bane of his existence, Abel. One day, he runs away after a fit of anger while dealing with, in his mind, an unjust god.
NOTES - So sorry this so late, once again. I've been locked in trying to fix my grades since the end of the semester is approaching 😅 Also i'm not sure if it's obvious but Lilith and Reader are talking about YHWH in the scene where Cain is spying on them. Sorry if my description of the Morningstar palace is shitty, I tried my best to imagine how a caveman would react to seeing a palace, and I doubt that the Morningstar palace a few decades after the story of creation looked the same as the Morningstar palace we see in the show.
TAGS - Fem!Reader. Like two uses of Y/N, i'm sorry but it'd be kinda stupid for Lucifer and Lilith to just refer to Reader as "my daughter" like 12 times. Some vague references to Cain and Reader being injured. Fluff and angst.

The first time Cain woke up, it was just for a second. He felt something soft underneath him, something resembling his old bed of grass. It didn't last long, he quickly slipped back into unconciousness.
The second time, his eyes cracked open for half a second, and he made out some muffled voices talking somewhere around him. He didn't recignize the voices, it certianly wasn't you, and it wasn't anybody else he had heard speak before, either. He tried to stay awake for longer, but his eyelids grew too heavy to handle and he passed out again.
Finally, he woke up for the third time, and this time he could handle himself. He sat up while rubbing his eyes, there was no time to waste, he had to find you.
The area he saw after opening his mind almost made his brain explode on impact.
Small fires lit up the space, on the ceiling and on the walls. The walls were nothing like the flimsy fence made of cloth and animal bones that held up his tent, the walls here were smooth and made of stone, providing an almost overwhelming amount of privacy.
His bed was made out of wood, atleast the frame that held it was, he couldn't tell what the mattressing was made of, but all he knew was that it soft as feathers.
He stood up, looking around in a mix of awe and confusion as he slowly walked through the decorated chamber.
Cain shook his head, he couldn't let this distract him. He had to find you and make sure you were okay.
He stopped infront of a large wooden board on the wall, it had a sphere on it. He grabbed the circular object and twisted it, the wooden board divided from the wall, revealing an entirely new space.
He walked through the long and narrow corridor silently, feeling like he was in an entirely new habitat. What was this place?
Finally, the hall seemed to reach a dead end. He looked at the wall in the distance as he made his way towards it.
When he was nearer, he noticed a human-like shape, hunched over a table.
He immediatley felt a flood of relief wash over him, but as he quickened his step to reach the figure, he paused - that wasn't you.
The silhouette turned around, and Cain realised it to be a man. Your father, maybe?
The individual was short, extremley so. He had plantinum blonde hair, even lighter then Abel's, is skin was pure white with prominent red cheeks.
This could not be the devil.
Could it?
The figure broke the silence, his voice cutting through the walls.
"Oh, shit! You must be Y/N's friend, i'm glad you're okay. You were in.. quite a state, when we found you two."
That confirmed it. Lucifer: the main reason he hadn't been able to grow up in paradise. Cain was unsure how to feel, but he supposed that there was no point in holding a grudge.
Seeing that the farmer wasn't responding, the devil let out an akward cough, looking away.
"I- uhm... Why don't you go check up on Y/N? She's with her mother, you should find them somewhere around here."
Cain nodded lightly, turning around and continuing to walk down the halls. Lucifer turned back to the table, hunching over whatever he was working once more.
Weird guy, Cain thought.
After a few more minutes of stumbling around like a fawn in snow, he came across another wooden board attached to the wall, simillar to the one in the first space he had woken up in.
He stepped closer, pressing his ear to the wall.
"I told you that going to earth would be a bad idea, honey. Look where it got you!"
A woman's voice announced - not yours. A few seconds of silence passed before another muffled voice filled his ears through the walls.
"I don't regret it, but I don't understand how he was able to hurt us that much. You and dad said that he wasn't as powerful as us!"
Your voice. That was you.
Cain wasted no time, he immediatley barged into the room.
On the bed were two figures. You and another woman, your mother, probably.
Before he had time to even take a proper look at you, you had ran over and tackled him to the ground.
"Cain! Oh, thank Satan! Are you okay? When did you wake up?"
You slightly pulled away to look at him, Cain let out a sigh of relief, hugging you back after finally getting ahold of himself.
"Just now. I've been looking for you, I saw a man somewhere around here. Your father, I think."
You smiled, helping him stand up.
"You can tell me all about it later, you definetley haven't had enough rest."
Just as he was about to respond, the third presence in the room made herself known again.
Your mother was tall, possibly tall enough to rival Adam. Her hair was the same shade of blonde as Lucifer's, but it was ridiciously long, almost reaching her knees. Lilith looked much more familliar to Cain then you and Lucifer did, but that was to be expected, the was a human too, afterall.
This entire situation was confusing, Cain was very thankful that you had filled in the gaps of the story of creation he had been taught, otherwise, his eyes would have probably bulged out of his head at the sight of another human in hell.
"You need much more rest, too, dear. Why don't you go back to your own room? I'll take care of your friend."
You looked back at your mother, hesitating, but you didn't argue. You and Cain exchanged one last look before you exited, leaving him alone with Lilith.
The queen of hell silently turned around and sat back down on the bed, Cain, not knowing what to do, followed her.
That had been the right move, apperantly. Lilith shifted his tunic to the side, revealing a series of white bandages decorating Cain's chest.
He hadn't even noticed them earlier, probably because he had been too preoccupied with finding you.
"You're Adam and Eve's first consequnce, then."
Lilith's smooth voice cut through the tension as she worked on re-applying the bandages that were too bloody to heal any more.
"I... I guess."
He hadn't even considered how akward it would be to meet your parents. The first woman, the actual first woman, not the replacement that was his mother. He didn't even know where to start.
Lilith did, however. She pulled away from him, looking down at Cain with a mixture of judgement and something unreadable.
"Y/N wasn't supposed to know this much, but there's nothing I can do to delete her memories."
She stood up, walking past him, just as she stepped up to the exit, she paused, but didn't turn back.
"She talks well about you, and as much as i'd like to wrap up all aspects of my past surronding Eden, I can tell you care about her, too."
Her voice dropped a bit, making Cain shiver despite the undeniable approval in her tone.
"I hope we can grow to respect eachother fully, one day. Untill then, take care of Y/N."
With that, she left, leaving Cain alone in the new chamber.
He wanted to leave again, to find you and finish talking to you, but something in the back of his mind stopped him from doing that.
He lied down on the plush bedding, folding his hands across his chest and staring at the ceiling.
Cain always believed that his life had been fully carved out into stone, but that was no longer the case.
Killing Abel had completley changed the trajectory of his story, whether that be for better or worse.

Cain woke up in a cold sweat, gasping as he looked around the dark insides of the tent.
He had tried to sleep, but his attempts hadn't gone far, how long had it been since Adam's threat? Maybe 2 hours.
Slowly and carefully, he stood up, walking past Abel's sleeping body and leaving the shelter.
With the stars and moon above as his only source of light, he began making his way through the empty field and into the woods, the sound of Adam's snoring becoming more and more distant.
He walked through the thick, dense nature for what felt like hours. Ocassionally stopping to wipe away the sweat forming on his forehead.
Finally, his feet felt the familliar ticklish sense of his favorite grass. He squinted, not being able to see much, either way, something told him this was the meadow.
He sighed, sitting down and leaning his back against the trunk of a tree, it wasn't comfortable, but it was better then sleeping near his father. He felt his eyeslids grow heavy, and this time, he had no reason to keep them open.
-
Upon waking up, he first noticed how bright it was, which probably meant he slept in, the second thing he noticed was something poking him in his rib.
He opened his eyes, just to find you poking at him with a long stick, a bored expression on your face.
"AH!"
"AH-"
You jumped away, dropping the stick and looking at him like he was a feral animal.
"What the fuck?!"
He tried to shout, but ended up in a coughing fit instead. He needed some water.
You frowned, crossing your arms and tilting your head.
"I should be the one saying that. Why are you sleeping in our spot? Did you miss me that much?"
A smirk slowly crept onto your face at the thought of the last sentence, but he was quick to shut that down.
"No, I- fuck! My father is suspicious, he thinks I befriended an angel."
You clicked your tounge in annoyance, looking off to the side in deep thought.
"Well, technically, he's only half-wrong."
"Not the point. If I hadn't come here while he was sleeping, he would've followed me."
You raised an eyebrow, clearly skeptical.
"You really think that you wouldn't have heard him behind you? I've seen your dad, he's like 8 feet tall."
"That's not the point, smartass. He could easily beat my ass, I need a way to get him off my back."
You rolled your eyes before another grin crept it's way onto your face.
"Ooo, I could cast a spell-"
"No."
"Ugh, you're so boring."
You let out an exasperated sigh, walking over to another three and leaning against it and looking down at the grass.
"I don't know what to tell you, Cain. Maybe you could just apologize to him, feed his ego."
"That's a horrible idea! And it wouldn't explain anything surronding you."
Another minute of silence passes, with no new ideas from either one of you, you began wandering around the meadow aimlessly. Maybe walking helped you relax, Cain didn't question it.
You came back to the tree you had been standing against with two rocks in hand, lightly smashing them toghether.
"What on earth are you doing?"
Cain scoffed out, barely glancing at you and your weird activities.
"Don't bother me, i'm in the middle of something."
You muttered out, all your focus on the stones.
"If you want to start a fire, I can just teach you, you're not even doing it right-"
He was interrupted by a small piece of one stone breaking off and dropping to the ground, revealing a smooth inside of the rock.
".. Oh."
Cain watched as you ran your finger along the edge between the untouched stone and smooth surface you had created. You narrowed your eyes, continued to bang the rocks toghether.
"I might have an idea."
That much was clear, Cain thought, he had never seen you so concentrated and serious.
After a while, you had successfully created a... sharp rock, pretty much. Cain and his family used more advanced tools for hunting and farming, he wasn't too impressed, but you seemed extremley proud of yourself.
You brought up the new tool to your hand, slowly pointing the sharp end of the rock into your skin, which left a red mark behind.
"Aha! We did it!"
Cain blinked, looking at you with a blank expression.
"Don't you get it, Cain? This is deadly, if you're fast enough, your father will no longer be a problem!"
Cain processed the implication of your word. Did you want him to kill Adam? Like how Abel slaughtered his sheep once they were no longer useful?
The suggestion didn't shock him, and it wasn't a particularly bad one, but it still had it's flaws.
"I could never do that. He is still my father, even if he's a liar, and he's important, the rest of us wouldn't survive without him.
"By Satan- Fine! I'm done giving you suggestions, do whatever you want!"
You announced, lifting up your hands in mock surrender and dropping the sharp rock.
"I think I will, thanks."
You gave him a pointed look but didn't say anything, instead, you turned towards the sky.
"I can't stick around today, my parents told me so. Good luck with your father."
"Yeah, see you tommorow?"
You grinned, which made him realise that he was the one planning the hang-outs now. How pathetic.
"You know it."
Cain blushed, turning his head down and moving to pick up the rock you had dropped, by the time he looked up again, you were gone once again.
-
Cain contemplated the situation with Adam the entire walk home, barely even recognizing that he had made it back.
Maybe he could do all of Adam's work for a day and suprise him and put him in a good mood? No, Adam constantly slaved away like a dog, Cain could never manage his father's load.
"Cain! Cain, wait-"
His thoughts were interuppted by Abel running towards him, shepard's staff in hand, which made the idiot trip and land face down in the grass. Cain would've laughed if he wasn't so annoyed. Abel quickly stood back up, a wide smile on his face.
"Cain, i've been looking for you! Do you have the offerings, we're supposed to present again today, remember?"
Oh, shit. Cain had been way to preoccupied with you these last few days, as it seemed, he had completley forgotten that God still demanded sacrifices.
"Ugh, I guess. Go to the tree, i'll be there in a minute."
"Oh, okay, don't take too long!"
Abel warned playfully, but quickly stopped when it only made Cain's scowl deeper. The second-born turned around and walked away in defeat.
Cain managed to collect some left-overs from his labour, eventually joining Abel to stand infront of God himself, or atleast the tree he used as a vessel.
As always, Abel's sacrifices were accepted. As always, Cain wasn't even acknowledged. The treatment he was subjected to usually made Cain angry, but there were more important matters on his mind.
While collecting the remnants failed offerings, Abel approached, which didn't serve to better his mood.
"Cain?"
"What is it now?"
Abel looked away nervously, rubbing circles into his own palm before he looked back at Cain with a small, concerned smile.
"I just wanted to ask if you were okay, I heard father include you in his cursing today, did something happen between you-"
"Get out of my face."
Abel paused, looking appalled.
"What-"
"Are you dumb? Leave!"
Abel furrowed his brow, going in to grab Cain's hand. Cain immediatley pulled away and punched at his brother's arm, making him take a step back.
"I'm so sick of you, Abel. You act so high and mighty, you'd be nothing without God's coddling! Stop pretending you care about me and fuck off to your sheep!"
With that, Cain turned around and stomped away, not looking back at Abel's still figure.
He entered the mammoth bone tent to cool off, walking over to his poor excuse of a bed and dropping down onto the dry grass.
Feeling something sharp poking at his tigh, he reached into the pocket of his tunic, pulling out your rock.
He clutched the make-shift weapon tighter untill his knuckles turned white, your suggestion hadn't seemed all that convinent when you first spoke it, but thinking about it another light, a small grin formed on his face.
He lifted the sharp rock into the air, looking over it carefully. You might have came to the revelation that humans were just as capable of dying as animals were, but Cain was the one who could decide to profit off that information.
Well, he'd tell you first, obviously, but he'd be the one making the final decision.
Unfortunatley, the side effects of only getting 3 hours of sleep last night caught up to Cain before he could begin planning properly. He yawned, slowly drifting off into the realm of dreams.

Cain ran all the way back home, never once stopping for a sip of water from a stream or even to catch his breath.
He finally made it out of the woods, breathing heavily as he approached the two familliar mammoth bone tents with slower steps.
Abel was most likely tending to his sheep somewhere, Eve had probably left to go bathe in the river, it didn't really matter, Cain wasn't interested in those two right now.
He walked up to his parents' shared tent, a million thoughts running through his head, but remembering that Adam was quite literally never in a good mood, Cain decided to calm down a bit before stepping inside.
He wiped the sweat off his forehead, taking a deep breath. You were lying, you had to be, you made up those additional details to mess with him and were just butthurt that he was too smart to fall for it.
Finally, he gathered the courage to lift the curtain and look into the tent, slowly stepping inside and letting the fabric fall back into place behind him.
Adam was sitting on a stool, holding a wet fur rag to his (injured?) shoulder and cursing under his breath. Nothing unusual.
"Father?"
"What do you want?"
Adam barked, not even looking back at Cain. The latter rolled his eyes in annoyance, maybe this wasn't a good time.
"I just wanted to ask if you could tell me the story of creation again."
That made Adam pause in his mumbled swearing, he finally looked back, narrowing his eyes in suspicion.
"Seriously, Cain? Even Abel outgrew the bedtime stories, you're a man, act like it."
Cain sighed, well, his father wasn't acting any different, so he could confirm that you were infact a liar.
"Whatever, forget it. I was just curious."
The younger man turned around to leave, his thoughts once again drifting back to you.
"Lilith, my ass-"
"... What?"
Cain paused, looking back at Adam. The older man wasn't looking at him, but his shoulders had noticeably tensed.
"Cain, tell me right fucking now where you heard that name. Was it your mother? I swear to God, i'll actually kill that bitch-"
... Oh.
Cain's entire world stopped, he felt his vision go blurry.
It had been true? You weren't lying? Adam, the man he looked up to his entire life, the man he believed cared for him more then anything, despite his rough exterior, had been the true liar for Cain's entire life?
"Answer me!"
Cain snapped out his daze, only to notice that Adam had stood up and walked over to him. He looked up at his father, a dumbfounded expression on his face.
"... It was true? You ass! How could you?! Is that why you were always so reluctant to tell the story? Because you knew it was a load of bullshit? Or do you get off on lying to your children?!"
Cain's voice got progressively louder untill he was basically screaming. Adam's face hardened even more, he let out a sound that Cain could only describe as a battle cry before raising his fist.
Cain flinched instinctively, a reflex he had from his childhood. Adam wouldn't hit him too often, but when he would, it stung. Cain figured he had outgrown spankings, considering that he had his growth spurt years ago, he wasn't much shorter then Adam anymore.
... Right, Cain wasn't that much weaker either. Why would he allow Adam, the man he had just learned to be a liar, put his hands on him?
Cain dodged Adam's slap just in time, and before his father could even react, Cain lifted up his foot and kicked Adam square in the groin.
He quickly ran out of the tent and headed for the woods, leaving Adam on his knees and screaming from pain.
Cain ran faster then he had ever ran before, he ran like God himself was chasing him. He ran non-stop, untill he couldn't feel his legs anymore.
Finally, he stopped, his knees buckled and he fell over.
Cain lied down on the ground, barely beginning to make out the rays of sunlight peeking through the thick leaves of the trees.
He clutched his stomach in pain, swallowing the little saliva in his mouth before his eyes managed to adjust, he firstly made out a stream just a few feet away.
Huh, maybe God hadn't completley abandoned him.
Cain dragged himself over to the edge of the stream in a military crawl, once he was close enough, he tilted his head down and drank using only his tounge.
Regaining some energy, he was able to use his arm to drink like a proper human. Considering that it was a hot summer day, and the fact that his body and tunic were both covered in dirt and soaking with sweat, he just dropped himself into the water completley to refresh.
After the simple relief of the cool water on his skin had ended, his attention redirected to his current situation, more specifically - his attention redirected to Adam and you.
He was furious at the fact that he had been lied to his entire life, sure, Cain himself had never been in the paradise that Adam so longed for, but he still had a direct connection to it. He could make peace with the fact that God and Eve hadn't cared to tell him, God had made it clear he wasn't fond of Cain, and Cain had stopped being close with his mother basically by the time she stopped breastfeeding him.
But he just couldn't think of a single reason on why Adam wouldn't tell him the truth.
Cain was Adam's favorite, that was the one thing he had going for him against Abel, Cain told his father everything. Every small detail about the first-born's life had been confided in Adam, even if most of it probably just went through one ear and out the other.
So why would Adam keep something so irrelevant but so important from him? Cain didn't fucking care that his father had a wife before his mother, it was about the principle. The man that was once so familliar now felt like a complete stranger, what else did Cain not know about his father?
And then there was you.
Cain had never really understood his mother and brother's hyper-sensitive nature, but for the first time in his life, he could see why Abel cried after slaughtering his sheep.
Sure, you were a little bit... strange, but you had been genuine this entire time, and he made you cry while defending his father who, as it turned out, had no valid defense.
He sighed restlessly standing up and stepping out of the water, while walking through the wet mud, he felt something fuzzy underneath his foot. He looked down to see a series of colourful wildflowers growing along the water, after a brief pause, he slowly removed his foot off the plants and crouched down.
He grabbed a fistful of flowers by their stalks (some that his foot hadn't touched) and stood back up, with a determined expression on his face, he began wandering the woods again.
It didn't take long to find another meadow, he couldn't tell if the one he stumbled across was the same one from your past two meetings, but it looked similliar.
He re-adjusted the flowers in his hands, letting out a shaky sigh as he looked towards the sky.
Wait, no. Wouldn't it make more sense to look at the ground? He praised himself for being so smart before looking down at the grass he was standing on.
He called out your name, once, then twice, but nothing happened. Cain was not a quitter, however, so he began talking.
"Look, i'm not sure if you can hear me, but I have something I need to say."
He paused, how on earth could he do this and keep his maculinity? It sucked that he cared more about you.
"You were right, I was wrong. Please just talk to me again."
He sighed, embarrassed and defeated, maybe it was for the better that you hadn't heard that.
Then he saw it.
A suspiciously shaped shadow peeking from behind a tree, when you noticed his staring, you ducked behind the trunk again.
"... Am I forgiven?"
He asked, unamusement lacing his tone as he he crossed his hands over his chest.
"What's the magic word...?"
"Oh, fuck off."
He barked, and you let out a small giggle, peeking your head out again to look at it.
"Well, I guess i'll take what I can get."
You slowly revealed yourself fully, leisurely strolling towards him with a shit-eating grin on your face. Your gaze circled in on the make-shift boquet in his hands.
"What's that?"
You pointed at the wildflowers, Cain felt his cheeks heat up, but reluctantly, he handed them to you as he planned, looking away when he spoke again.
"I thought you'd like these."
You stayed quiet, and Cain was just about to look back at you when you suddenly let out the highest pitched squeak he had ever heard, and he spent alot of time around small animals.
"Oh. My. Satan. That's so sweet! I can't believe you'd do that for me, i'm so honoured! Thank you, Cain!"
You practically ripped the flowers out of his hands, bringing them up to your face to smell them. Your smile wide and... was that a tear in your eye?
"Please, can I hug you?"
You leaned in again, blinking at him and clasping your hands toghether in a pleading motion.
"Ugh, fine-"
Before he could even finish, you had already tackled him to the ground. Cain blinked, letting out an exasperated sigh before he akwardly put a hand on your back.
You two stayed like that for a while, your smiling face flickered between the flowers, the sky and him. Cain tried to avoid eye contact, why did you make him feel so weird?
As peaceful as the moment was, the sky began to darken, a pit formed in Cain's stomach at the thought of meeting Adam again.
"This is... nice, I guess, but I think I should get going, my family is going to get worried."
"Whaaatttt?! No, screw your family, stay with me!"
Cain sighed, gently pulling you off of his chest and sitting up, running a a hand through his hair, hopefully no bugs got in.
"I can't. I kicked my dad in the balls, I don't want to see him again, but I have to."
"Hehe... Good one."
"Thanks."
He groaned as he stood up, you sat up, looking down at the flowers with a furrowed brow before looking back at him.
"Tomorrow, again?"
"If my father dosen't beat me untill I can't walk straight anymore."
You laughed again, biting your lip and looking him up and down before speaking. Your voice lowered, not in intimidation, but in reassurence.
"If he tries, just call out for me, i'll protect you."
"Pfftt, yeah, I don't doubt it."
He waved you off like an annoying fly, your pout only grew.
"I'm serious!"
"Sure you are."
You sighed, but dropped it. Looking off to the side for a brief second, you finally stood up and returned your gaze to him.
"Thank you for the flowers, Cain. I'll see you soon."
He paused, looking down at his feet as his heartbeat began beating unnaturally quickly.
"... Yeah, see you soon."
He broke out of his trance and looked up, but as always, you were already gone.
-
The first sign that something was off was the silence.
The two tents that the family lived in weren't too far apart, Cain had spent many nights falling asleep to the sound of his father's snoring, despite the fact that they didn't share a living space.
It was dark by the time Cain stumbled back home, and yet it was quiet.
Cain walked past his parents' eerily noiseless tent, heading straight for his and Abel's shared shelter.
Even though Cain hated his brother, he couldn't deny the relief he felt at the sight of Abel asleep on his mat, atleast he knew that someone was still alive.
His brief moment of comfort was broken by a tall, broad figure stepping out of the shadow created by some supplies, Cain's expression hardened as Adam walked foward, stepping right infront of Cain.
"Listen to me good, boy. I'm not an idiot, I know when that woman is lying, and when she's telling the truth."
Adam's sneer of disgust grew as he grabbed Cain by the back of his head and yanked him foward.
"If she didn't tell you, and if you've been sneaking off for hours at a time everyday for the past... what? Three days?"
Cain felt Adam's grip on his hair tighten, the older man's voice dropped even lower.
"That means you've found someone from another realm to spend your time with, dosen't it? Some little angel, a messenger that prefers my spawn over me?"
Adam mocked, tilting his head before letting go of Cain abruptly, straightening his posture.
"I will find out, Cain, and I will win this fight you've declared."
He announced, judgement lacing his tone as he scoffed one last time before exiting the tent abruptly.
Cain swallowed the lump forming in his throat, walking over and collapsing onto the pile of dry grass in his corner of the tent.
Eventually, the sounds of Adam's snoring cut through the air again, but it did nothing to soothe the dread taking root in Cain's blood.
TAGS - Cain is an unreliable narrator and a crybaby, take his word with a grain of salt. This is inspired by the setting of the actual parts in Genesis that Cain and Abel appear in, but it dosen't have to be read as a canon divergence of that story. Cain is kinda supposed to be in his late teens in this, reader too. Reader is the eldest child of Lucifer and Lilith and they were concieved in Eden, this is set before Charlie's birth. Reader is obsessed with humans and earth. Written with a female reader in mind, but still GN. Reader falls first, Cain falls harder, and I mean MUCH harder. Cain dosen't know about the Morningstars, Adam and Eve are gatekeepers.
WORDCOUNT - 1.4K
DISCLAIMER - English is my third language and this is the first fanfic i've ever actually put out on the internet. Please be nice.
Fanfic under the cut, please enjoy!
Cain was so, so sure that he was better then that blonde, soft-handed brat.
I mean, he had offered everything he possibly could have! He still needed to eat, no wonder Abel managed to sacrifice his best results, he barely helped with any physical labour anyways!
Unfortunatley, God still favoured his brother, that was how it had always been. It's not like Cain hated God, he wanted the supreme ruler's approval, but it was very clear that the lord had a list of things he favoured in his creations.
Abel, the selfless and kind younger son who offered blood - the ultimate sacrifice, got most of the praise. His sheep bred plentifully, producing more wool and meat then Abel could ever want, need, hoard and share. Adam and Cain were after thoughts - okay, but nothing special. They produced sacrifices and did their jobs. Cain supposed that he should be atleast a little bit grateful, it could've been worse, he couldn't even recall a single time his mother's prayers were answered, no matter how small and innocent the plea.
But still, his mother pulling the short straw didn't change the fact that Cain had the middle straw, and there was nothing more he wanted than that long straw glowing in Abel's hands.
After yet another long, grueling day of work, Cain and his brother presented their usual sacrifices to the ancient tree that God prefered to use to speak to all four (more so three, but Eve kind of brought that onto herself) of the residing humans on earth.
Abel recieved the usual cold praise, the deep voice illuminating from the tree informed him that his offering was appreciated.
Cain hadn't even expected much, maybe a pity accept and a 'be more thoughtful next time', but he didn't think that he deserved to be brushed off completley! The old bastard didn't even allow him to take the fruits and vegetables back!
Cain stormed off, tears welling in the corners of his eyes, but he didn't allow himself to cry. Men didn't cry, that was what Adam always taught him, and Adam was the only person - entity, that gave half a shit about him.
He hadn't noticed how the voice echoing from the tree had silenced when he had his burst of anger, however, while he was sitting on the rock he had found in the woods, an eagle flew up to him, and the same ear-grating, insufferable voice began to reprimand him.
God didn't yell, he only lectured. He told Cain that his offering of plants already looked mediocre compared to the work that Abel put in to slaughter the sheep he sacrificed. He told Cain that Abel always gave the best he had, while Cain gave what he had left over.
Whatever. It's not like an all-powerful being would understand the concept of hunger. During colder months, when everyone's muscles started growing weaker, giving the richest and most nurishing fruits of his labours to a selfish mad scientist was the last thing on Cain's mind.
Eventually, the eagle flew away leaving Cain alone with his thoughts. The farmer wandered untill he came to the realization that he had absolutely no idea where he was.
Cain ocassionally hunted in the woods with his father, but they never ventured too far, Adam always said that the deeper they went, the more dangerous the threats became. Suddenly, he was very aware of the fact that a bear could come out of any hole in the ground and rip him to shreds, God would probably watch it and shrug before returning to fussing over Abel.
With that knowledge, he began running, he tried to run back, but he had always had a poor sense of direction, so instead of ending up on the empty field where the two mammoth bone tents he had grown up in lied, he ended up in another empty field, one he didn't quite recognize.
Well, atleast he wasn't in the woods anymore, and he had been needing a break from Abel for quite a while. It wasn't that dark yet, he'd begin making his way home in just a few minutes. Cain promised that to himself as he sat down on the soft grass, looking up at the blue sky.
His peace lasted for approximately seven minutes before he heard rustling from behind him.
He looked back, expecting a fox or a hare, but instead he found... nothing?
His confusion was cut short when heard a grunt from behind him. He quickly turned back around, and this time, he found something, or more properly, someone.
You had a tough landing, that was clear. Had you fallen from the sky, or had you popped up from the underworld? Cain internally placed his bets on the former, you looked like you could be an angel.
You grunted as you finally rose to your feet, smoothing out the wrinkles on your white tunic. You looked around in confusion and awe, before your gaze finally landed on him.
"Oh my Satan, I did it. I did it! I finally did it!"
You shouted like a mad person, Cain blinked, what the fuck?
You resembled a human, in a way, but there was something off about you. Something he couldn't quite place, but it made you different from the three other humans he knew.
Before he could even process what was happening, you had ran off to the entrance of the woods, faceplanting into a tree before hugging it.
Cain ran after you, growing out of breath by the time he reached you. That was another thing that proved you weren't human, he thought, not even Adam was that fast.
"What the fuck?! Who are you?"
That was a tad bit of an underreaction, but he honestly didn't know what else to say.
You quicky turned switched from hugging the tree to hugging him, which was weird, the only person who had ever hugged Cain was Eve, and even that had stopped a few years ago.
You introduced yourself with a name, and with another word after your name, Morningstar. Did you have two names? That wasn't really fair, everyone Cain knew only had one.
"Okay, okay," Cain forced himself to calm down, untangling your hands from his body. "Can you start over?"
"I've been trying to get here for years, you have no idea! I've been watching you, and your mother, and your father, and your brother!"
Your smile was all teeth, Cain shivered, you weren't really the charming type.
"... Right, and what are you?"
"Well, technically i'm a nephilim. But i'm still half human, so no worries, i'm sure we'll get along just fine!"
Half human? Cain had never been so confused in his life, he was about to ask more questions, when you looked at the sky and frowned.
"Aw, man. You're telling me the sky is not always blue? That's a bummer, I always get so tired of the red down there, orange is barely even an upgrade!"
Cain followed your gaze to the sky, shit. The sun had began to set, masking the sky in an orange and pink hue.
"Well, I guess I should go before mom and dad find out i've found a way to get here. Same place tommorow?"
You spoke, leaning into him, your smile had softened slightly, which made you look some-what normal compared to the unhinged grin of earlier.
Cain felt his lower stomach flutter in a way that it had never done before, he swallowed the lump in his throat, giving a weak nod.
"Yay! I'll be here, don't make me come for nothing, or else i'll cry to my mom and she'll curse you!"
You said in the same happy tone from before, which was even more concerning then if you had been intimidating with that threat, atleast in Cain's opinion.
Before he could say anything else, you sprinted past him, he paused, and by the time he looked back to where you had ran off to, there was no trace left of you.
Cain let out a slow, confused sigh as he gripped the fabric of his tunic to steady himself, slowly walking into the woods to attempt to find his way home.
He didn't know who you were, or why you made him feel so weird when you leaned in, but if there was one thing he knew, it was that he was coming back tommorow, and not because of the threat of being cursed.
