Writing Fane as a love-addled fool is equal parts amusing and comforting. it’s really humiliating that I am eighteen years old and just now finding out that I am half black. i should not have to dig this hard to understand my racial/ethnic background. i have been confused my entire life about who i am and how people see me, and i feel betrayed. i grew up as a brown girl with a mom drilling into me that i am not black. and that is not okay. that is not okay.

My friend was fangirling to me about some guy she likes listening to, I think called 'The Weekend' or something.
