Ok I will have one yap
Originally I had it that Steve and Jane are both like. Basically mortal and whenever Steve dies in one universe he is permanently gone for that Jane but he falls in love with another Jane 1000 times, thinking she’s just one person.
I kinda grew to hate it tho like idk with the slapstick-y nature of a lot of Steve’s deaths it has tonal whiplash contrasted against the severe grief Jane was gonna experience from it and it also feels kinda disrepectful to her? Also it’s fucked up that he can get another lover and she can’t
I changed the story a bit, when Steve first dies he wakes up in the ethereal plane, in an elevator that is supposed to. Well you’ll see.
I was thinking that Jane is stuck in the ethereal plane permanently cuz she’s been dead for a long time. Steve still wakes up in a new universe every time, because well you’ll see. But in between his death and awakening he is ~temporarily~ in the ethereal plane and can interact with Jane then.
So as they grow closer, Jane actually becomes upset when Steve comes back to life. Because she can’t see him then. Idk I think it’s a fun twist. And Steve kind of. Doesn’t want to be alive either, he just wants to rest
Now that sounds bleak but a major theme of the story is learning to want to live. Idk idk I think I’m cooking
