“Please, don’t leave me.”

Her words were like a dagger, twisting and turning in her chest, burrowing deeper until they were festering within. Four simple words which caused her eyes to sting more than they had, her nails digging into the palms of her hands. Red painted lips pursed together as teeth clenched in preparation of what was to come. What had to transpire. Please, don’t leave me. This had been a mistake, this whole thing, and she’d known it would come to this in the end… but to actually feel something, to know that this wasn’t some silly little dalliance that meant nothing… it was enough to break her heart. “— Lena… we knew this was coming… we knew we…”
Words trail as her gaze lowers, not wanting the girl to see how glassy her eyes had become. Yet, she reaches for her hand, any comfort she could gather for herself while giving as much as she could to Lena. Silence hangs between them both before she lifts her gaze to meet the other’s. One hand lifts to rest gently against Lena’s cheek, her heart pounding in a tight chest. “This, Us, has to end. Now. Every bit of it. It’s not what we thought it was…” Voice in danger of breaking, she averts her gaze again, staying glued to the bedspread beneath them. “…it doesn’t work, so let’s leave it at that…”
