Waste Not Want Not
This 16th century bible commentary on the Prophets was bound with two “waste” manuscript leaves as pastedowns.
We’ve identified the content of the manuscript leaves as being from De Excessu Fratris by Saint Ambrose (ca. 340-397), a work about the death of the author’s brother. The text is from separate, non-contiguous sections of the work, so we’re guessing other parts of this manuscript are out there in other books!
This book was owned by the Rev. John Barnard of Marblehead, Mass. (1681-1770) who gave it and other books to Harvard after the great fire of 1764.

Given the earlier reference to the Lord's Supper controversy with the Swiss, it is not surprising that the Reformers add this small gloss to "sitting at the right hand of God." It is not a place but rather a description of Christ's coeternal reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit. As far as how the humanity of Christ can be both in heaven at God's right hand and on earth in the Supper and, according to Matthew 18:20, with the assembled believers, Luther in effect replied to this question when raised at the 1529 meeting in Marburg with the Swiss theologians Ulrich Zwingli and Johann Oecolampadius: "Stop asking mathematical questions."

În bisericile baptiste am auzit rareori citându-se din acest pasaj (Ioan 6) deși există unele biserici care citează acest text la fiecare eveniment în care se ia Cina. Am întâlnit mai multe biserici penticostale care citează aproape la fiecare act al Cinei acest pasaj. Cred că este o eroare să se interpreteze acest text ca referindu-se la Cina Domnului.
