Ace of Shades is not what I expected. I expected a fun story with a predictable ending, but a fun book. That wasn't what I read. The world was intricately thought out from the split talents to the history behind the different gangs around the city. The search for the main character's, Enne, mother was almost a side story int this world of mystery and intrigue. The corruption of the Enne was what really got me. How one person can do so much in the name of someone they love. Put themselves on the end of a knife and in service to the head of a crime family. I expected a light fun read but got an intense though out story involving Levi a con man too good for the streets. Who needed to prove something to himself. I loved it. This is an excellent start to a series that I'll definitely be continuing with. Thank you to Harper Collins Canada for the ARC. Brenna
