Yapped about my ocs to a friend and it made me so happy that I feel a little bit more brave about talking about my ocs at all. Maybe this will be the year I start posting about my ocs

i feel like ive asked u this before but im gonna ask again what strategy do you use to organise your ocs? like do you sort them by anything or use charts or what? my chart's getting hard to use n read from just the 30-odd that i have in there so i was wondering how u keep all 139 organised?
I want you to know that I used to be a Homestuck roleplayer, and I joined several chatrooms where we all took up roles. In many of these rooms, they’d be an au of some kind: medievalstuk, demonstuck, experimentstuck, hunger gamestuck, etc., and it was expected it wasn’t a one time thing, more like a story, and since we’d all come back to continue the stories, there was devised a way to make sure we all claimed our characters and set down some backstory of the character and info on the rper like contact info. The sign-up sheets were on Google Spreadsheets, and they were divided up into several columns: “Character” “Status” “Age” “Details” “Pics/Refs” “Mun Name” “Mun Contact” etc.
this is from the medievalstuck rp (I was a dragon lady!)
when I became serious about 5000 A.D., I tried to set down their roles:
then I actually remembered my rping days and how organized the sheets were, and I tried doing a version of it:
(look, I even named it “RP Styles”!)
when I tried doing the same for my Riordanverse ocs (of which I only had 4 at the time), I realized: “hey, making more sheets would be a waste of time and be very inefficient, maybe I should combine all my ocs into one sheet”, which is how I ended up with my current oc sheet
I have 19 columns: Characters, Motivation, Color, Role, Age, Height, Heritage, Personality, Ideals, Weaknesses, Likes/Dislikes, Queer?, Religion, Relationships, Pic 1, Pic 2, AMV, Other, and #. The # column is for my organizational needs, and doesn’t actually count how many there are
I have 163 rows, and they’re divided into the names of the worlds, actual character names, and spaces in between. The top row, containing the labels of the columns, is frozen so that when I scroll, I know which column I’m looking at, something lacking in the Homestuck rp sheets. I also have various pages, or “sheets,” along the bottom:
I have 11 pages: ocs, website references, 5000 AD linguistic map, fandom songs, names I like, 5000 AD background characters, name creation, my tumblr management, yearly names, surnames, and aus
I use Google Spreadsheets bcus it’s easy to edit and it’s on the app store, making for easy editing and updating wherever I go. This is how I organize my ocs
Very fun n cool n awesome how we're all obsessed w someone's ocs on this website
