Oh, how’d he’d always been miserable with these sorts of things. It had always been his brother to be the flirt, the share the drunken kisses in the bars they’d found teeming with jobs. He’d always hung back, sullen and glowering into a glass of water and now he found himself regretting every moment of passive ignorance. 

But Essa’s lips only brushed against the high arc of his cheekbone, the whisper of words snaking across his skin, “A man as handsome as you shouldn’t be alone, hm. It’s nearly a crime.” 

He had only been introduced once to the sith lord, earlier tonight, but he had found their eyes locking more than was proper across as the night had waned. Enough to where Baize began to find himself restless, torn between disappearing simply to escape the interest his mind was making headlong for, and approaching Essa outright. 

Essa made the decision for him. 

His words took a moment to process, and when they did Baize squeaked out a gasp. Shouldn’t he say something suave, say something? Perhaps ‘Well you’re just the company I wanted’ or, ‘No sir, I much prefer to spend these events alone’?

No, instead a rash instinct throttled his common sense, shoving it aside and acting with enough boldness that made the window look rather appealing to the rational part of his mind. 

Baize turned his cheek, catching Essa’s lips as stepped back. It was an uncoordinated, messy kiss and yet still it elicited a hum that sent a whisper of intrigue through Baize. 

Pulling away, Baize couldn’t keep a small gasp from escaping him. What was he doing? He could feel his parents’ disapproval all the way from Csilla. These events were for networking, building prestige, not kissing sith in back corners. 

Before an apology could work its way up his throat, Essa’s hand crept to his jaw, holding with an insistent pressure to tilt his head back. When their lips back again it was more assured.

“Oh I hope that was simply a preview.” Essa purred, taloned fingernails drawing across Baize’s skin as he pulled his hand back. He shivered, breath shaky with more than just party nerves. “Because I’m very interested in more.” 

If that wasn’t enough to make Baize weak in the knees, then it was the insinuation instead that had him wanting to melt against the podium at his back.
