BEYOND MORALITY: THE DIVINE PARADOX OF ABRAXAS....
For thousands of years Abraxas has haunted the minds of mystics, alchemists and seekers of forbidden knowledge. To the uninitiated he is a name etched on ancient amulets, whispered in forgotten texts, dismissed as heresy. But for those who dare peer behind the veil, Abraxas is the cosmic enigma, the force beyond duality, the divine that contains creation and destruction in a single essence.
In the secret texts of the Basilidians Abraxas is described as the supreme emanation, the source above all celestial spheres. His 365 powers correspond to the days of the solar year, symbolizing his dominion over time, space and the cycles of existence. Unlike the demiurge, the false creator in Gnostic cosmology, Abraxas is neither good nor evil. He is totality incarnate, a living paradox where light and darkness are inseparable.
The alchemists of Alexandria and later Hermetic scholars associated Abraxas with the serpent and the ouroboros, symbols of eternal return, transformation and hidden knowledge. To invoke Abraxas was to confront the wholeness of existence: creation and destruction, order and chaos, the divine and the infernal fused into one unstoppable force. Some texts hint that mastery over Abraxas grants what the Hermetics call the Great Work of the Soul, a gnosis where duality dissolves and the practitioner perceives all realities simultaneously.
In Jewish mysticism Abraxas is linked with the Sephiroth beyond the Tree, the hidden powers that elude comprehension. He is the shadow of the Ein Sof, the divine infinity, representing the unity that precedes differentiation. In mystical practice, understanding Abraxas is a perilous journey. Many who sought him in secret rites were said to confront their own inner chaos, the shadow self and the raw currents of cosmic energy.
Magic circles, amulets and talismans bearing the name of Abraxas were considered extremely potent. He is called both protector and destroyer, an entity that can elevate consciousness or annihilate illusions of selfhood. Unlike the gods of orthodox faiths, Abraxas does not negotiate morality. He is the principle of totality, the force that forces humanity to recognize the illusion of duality.
Some scholars link Abraxas to the Egyptian god Horus, the Persian Mithra and even the serpent of Eden. Each represents a different aspect of divine paradox: creation that destroys, life that feeds on death, light inseparable from shadow. In many esoteric manuscripts Abraxas is depicted with a rooster's head, symbol of awakening and vigilance, and serpentine legs, symbol of subterranean power and hidden wisdom. He is both cosmic sovereign and liminal trickster.
Abraxas is feared, misinterpreted and often condemned as demonic. But the truth is more subversive. He is the archetype of transcendence, a force that challenges rigid moral binaries. To invoke or even meditate on Abraxas is to confront the hidden engine of reality itself, the energies that orthodox religions suppress. He does not exist to be worshiped in the usual sense. He exists to reveal what lies beyond judgment, beyond the veil, beyond human comprehension.
...Welcome to the sixth Symbol Saturday
Six is a perfect fit, because it’s also the number of birds that Romulus spotted in the sky:
Mox pastores illum in Palatio, hunc in Aventino vultures exspectare viderunt.
Subito Remus vocavit: “Videte! Sex vultures! Sex vultures advolant!”
Iam victoriam suam celebravit, cum Romulus clamavit: “Duodecim, videte, duodecim vultures adsunt!”
Pastores, qui haec audiverant, hunc vicisse consenserunt, illum reliquerunt, in Palatium abierunt.
… but his brother Remus spotted twelve. What was this about?
Romulus and Remus didn’t just go out for bird spotting because the day was inviting. Instead, they went in order to decide who will be the emperor of the city they were about to found. Remus saw twelve birds, and the pastors agreed that the signs had come in his favour.
Counting birds has been a practice known in ancient times already, and to this day it is one of the popular beliefs.
Counting crows is rather popular, and easy when sticking to the nursery rhyme:
One for sorrow, two for joy, three for a girl, four for a boy, five for silver, six for gold, seven for a secret never to be told, eight for a wish, nine for a kiss, ten for a time of joyful bliss.
Birds often represent freedom, the soul, rebirth (especially if we look at the Phoenix), but every type of bird also has its own specific symbolism.
From the pigeon in Roman and Christian belief as a symbol of peace and deliverer of good news, to the caged Nightingale and her song, there’s plenty of stories providing different birds with different symbolism. Let’s look at a few examples:
Crows usually always comes in groups, sometimes accompanied by rooks and jackdaws. These birds are often seen as symbols of death and darkness, as especially crows used to stick near to battlefields to feast on the fallen. This aspect may have been one of the reasons the crow ended up being the symbol of the Morrigan. But crows also symbolise friends/family that can be trusted blindly (as the German saying goes: a crow will not peck out the eye of another crow). Like their bigger cousin the raven, crows also symbolise intelligence, magic and the unknown.
Robins seem to have become one of Britain's trademarks: If there’s winter, there’s Robins. These cute little critters with their red chests are often symbols for endurance, rebirth, and strength. They stay here during the cold winters and somehow always seem to make it through.
Eagles are especially popular birds as national symbols, since they’re considered strong and powerful. If you’ve ever seen an eagle’s claw, you may also know why— in Mongolia, eagles are being used for hunting foxes. Their claws are strong enough to crush their skulls. They also represent wisdom linked to strength: “What do I have to understand to make use of my power?”
Swans are another popular symbol. While white swans symbolise emotions, sensibility, marriage, and beauty, black swans often symbolise intuition in dreams— but they can also be an omen of death, like any other black bird. The popular ‘dying swan’ is a symbol of unrequited love.
Do you have any favourite bird? If so, what do you love about it?

"The Interview"
In May of 2020, Melani Pawlowski made a series of interviews answering questions pertaining to the whereabouts of Melani's young cousins Tylee Ryan, 17 and JJ Vallow, 7. The nationwide search for Tylee and JJ came to a tragic ending on June 9, 2020 when the bodies of Tylee and JJ were found in the backyard of the children's step father Chad Daybell. Both Chad and Lori are currently in jail on charges related to the Tylee and JJ's disappearance.
Melani Pawlowski has been a subject of interest to law enforcement as well as the Social Media True Crime Community. Attached is a video of Melani and Ian Pawlowski's interview with an Arizona news channel. For a recap please click on the following link:
