(Spoilers for Castti's Ch. 2 Winterbloom route!)
Gameplay and story segregation, Octopath Traveler's old friend... There were a few points in the game where it got especially egregious, but I had gotten used to it from the first game by that point.
Mostly. I'm still gonna make fun of it though.
(you could argue that everyone waited outside until the fight went outside, but that starts raising even more questions...)
