they were both made for a single comic page for class, the concept for their design was literally just dark knight vs white knight but now they got their own little lives
Orion was a human cursed to be reborn as a husk, a monster without memories of his previous life, shunned by everyone. Usually they're left to wander alone until they decay and experience a second death, but Orion woke up with some voice in his head telling him to do his bidding (kidnap a princess that isn't even a princess anymore, just the last of a royal bloodline that fell in disgrace), and he's clinging to that as a lifesaver, as having a purpose will bind him to life for a little longer. When he woke up in his new form he found himself looking at the stars in the sky, and he can vaguely feel there was something important about the Orion constellation, which is why he took the name! He's a rambler, can't really sit in silence for long, and is just very awkward. He likes to tend to plants in his free time from doing evil things for his evil voice-in-the-head boss.
Rigel is not from around 'here' (wherever the story takes place); they were found, and saved, by the aforementioned still unnamed princess, who is currently working as an apprentice blacksmith. She's also the only one that saw Rigel's face and heard their voice. They don't speak, and usually communicate via written notes or gestures if their hands are busy. They love just standing by and watching life go by, and they can stay still for long enough that animals just gather around them like they're a statue. Their curiosity is their main driving force, besides wanting to protect the 'princess', so they can usually be found reading in the library or checking out a bunch of books at once. People watching is still their main hobby though. Rigel is a name that they chose for themselves with the princess' help!
They find Orion to be incredibly fascinating because of how much he wears his heart on his sleeve :) unreadable mask vs guy that is extremely easy to read
