the thing about homelander's racism is that he doesn't actually care. it's a byproduct of the people he was raised by. he is a socially intelligent man in that he knows how best to hurt people. he uses microaggressions. he uses racial stereotypes to get his way. he does this for every person, though. he'll rip off ashley's wig, he'll fatshame, he's ableist, he'll force deep to eat fish, there really just isn't anything he won't go after in order to put someone down. in his mind, everyone is beneath him. non-supes the most.

but at the same time he's deeply put off by stormfront's rhetoric. obviously i'm not denying that he is a bigot, but he's also a major hypocrite. he'll create double standards in order to justify himself. he'll excuse things or rework them in his head. i don't really think he'd care about americanizing a partner because he doesn't actually give a shit about america. he only cares about his own desires and what will make him happy. if he met someone who made him happy, he would adjust. like, he's all about the beauty standard and able-bodied americans, but he couldn't let go of kentucky fried stormfront. as an amputee i have a lot of very weird feelings about that whole plotline lol

whether or not the fact his racism is half-hearted learned behavior affects those feelings for you is entirely up to you. as a lesbian i get the same ick whenever i think about him forcibly outing maeve on live television, mocking her identity, her fear he would hurt her girlfriend, etcetc.

ultimately i can brush it off because he's just my little dolly, and i like to play with him my own way. i totally respect folks who get hung up on those aspects of his personality tho. they really do fucking suck.
