This was a pain in the butt in a few places, but I like how it turned out. It started off as an old work doodle from two years ago, and the scene takes place before this one.

Opening my eyes, I find myself in a void. I look to my left and Atlas is out of my sight, nowhere near. This is a very long night. I hope he didn’t go out to feed on someone. He’s too weak to do it on his own. I look around the darkness to where the window would be. Why is there no moonlight showing through? It’s way too dark.
I pat the surface beneath me. The bed is harder than I remember and the blanket was gone. My sense of touch was stripped from me and I went numb, my fingers buzzing and filling with static. A force struck my hand to the hard surface, bound by the wrist in chain and my ankles and other hand followed. Bright, glowing, shimmering hands placed a blindfold over my eyes and yanked the knot tight.
Silence filled the area as the arms were sucked back into the haze. My chest became heavy with fear and a wave of heat came over the void, drawing closer to my feet with a growing roar and intensity.
“No.” I whined. “No!” The blistering heat engulfed my feet as I tried to kick. The flames devoured the shredding skin and muscle with great speed. It drew out one last scream from me and I struggled to break free. My torso spasmed as I tried to get my wrists out of the chains and my name was called repeatedly.
“Judy, wake up! Please wake up!”
I woke up in a sweat to see Atlas still at my side. “You… didn’t leave?”
“What?” He was dumbfounded. “Of course not! Why would I?”
So he didn’t leave. I was dreaming. It was a nightmare.
“You were screaming and hitting me in your sleep. It scared me awake so I tried to wake you.”
I sat up and wiped the sweat from my forehead with the collar of my gown. “I was… on fire.” A rumble started within my core and shook through my chest, blocking off my air. My eyes started to sting. “It hurt so much. I felt it all.”
“You’re alright, Judith.” He brushed my messy waves back with a free hand and guided me to lay back down by the shoulder with the other. “You’re no longer on fire. You’re here, safe and sound.” With that gentle movement and calm hum of his voice, visions of burns and melted flesh were cleansed away.
“Where are we going to go? We can’t stay here.” My thoughts were bouncing off the walls of my mind and I started to freak. “Someone will surely find us. We have no clothes, no source of hygiene, no food. Even food for you is a risk without getting caught.” I stammered into his sunken chest. The petting of my hair continued. “We’ll surely die like this.”
“Ssshh. You’ve always been so driven.” Atlas whispered into the thick and dusty air. “Don’t worry that time is moving again.” The petting stopped and he placed his hand on the nape of my neck and inhaled deeply, exhaling just as so. “Relax until we gain what little strength we have left.”
Vehicles whooshed up and down the street below and the wind whistled past the window. I glanced over Atlas’s bony shoulder to look outside. The clouds were traveling at their normal pace again. They were fluffy and full in their large groups. Yet their fullness and gray shadows told that they were about to drop their weight on the town. I got an idea as we lay there.
“Hey, Atlas?
He replied with another one of his hums.
“What if you drank my blood?”
With that query, he stiffened and his breath hitched. “Why would you ask such a question, Judith?” His voice became flat and stern.
“Because I have been eating. You haven’t since you took a large chunk out of that priest years ago.” There was no closeness in that moment. He let me go and rolled over to face away from me. “Atlas. Listen to me. You’re skin over bone. I can feel your ribs and spine. I know you’re suffering.”
“I shouldn’t.” He glared at the wall. “You know it can kill people.”
The sun beamed through the clouds and as Atlas itched the skin of his neck, a giant piece flaked off. A groan escaped from him with a slow, unsettling peel of a second piece.
“I know. But as you said at the asylum, you’re dying.”
And to that, he bit his cheek. “Are you positive about this Judith?” He asked as his eyes traveled to the floor.
“Of course I am.”
He breathed shallowly. “Let me just get out of this sun.” He sat up, made his way around the foot of the bed, and sat in a pretzel in the shadow. He pat the floor next to him. I climbed off the mattress and sat beside him and he took me by the shoulder to bring me closer.
“Is it going to hurt?” I asked as he tugged my collar down.
“Just stay calm. Focus on something in the room.”
“There’s nothing.”
“Anything.” He had slight irritation in his voice. “A corner. A stain on the floor.” He went in and paused with the light prickle of sharp, glassy teeth against my skin. I focused on a large ripple in the floorboards. “You okay?”
“Yeah.”
A puncture. A pop. And warm red trails coated my skin and his lips in the shade of the morning. With each draw, a rush of adrenaline was pulled up to the surface and circled through my veins. After he pulled away, my blood was smeared all over the bottom half of his bruised face, with a bit flecked on the button of his nose.
“Whoa.” He blinked hard and focused on the wall behind me.
“What? Do you see something?” I looked over but my neck caught me with striking pain.
“There’s rainbow dots. Everywhere.” Atlas shifted and sat back, laying his head on the bedside after he wiped the blood on his gown. “I need to lay back.”
“Oh, geez. That’s probably your blood pressure. You may have ate too fast.”
“Or you have too much gunk in your system.”
“Shut up and close your eyes. You got too excited.” I got up on my legs and wobbled my way up on the bed on my stomach, grabbing the blanket. I pressed it to my neck to stop the bleeding. “And blame the hospital food for that.”
He shown a small smile as I was teasing him and we sat there in the reducing shadow, feeling like shit. But I suppose after he’s balanced, he’ll feel like a million bucks. After awhile, he fell asleep. But with constant worry, I kept pressing my fingers to his neck for a pulse and put a hand under his nose to make sure he was still breathing. The morning drew on into the afternoon and we both managed to stay alive.
I looked out the window from over the mattress and saw that outside had turned from gold to a cool gray. The rain ticked and pattered on the roof, dripping in the hall after sinking into the roof. Clicking of heels started below the stairs, making their way up slowly. The person is slow and wandering, checking room to room of the apartment. My heart sped up and my head started to become light. I pray that they skip this room. Please skip it. We don’t want to go back.
The footsteps stopped at the door of the bedroom and it creaked open.

Kind of huevember, kind of not. The window borders are still a blue green, but I couldn't get the green and red combo to work with all the red stained glass. This was a sketch from work around halloween time inspired by a stained glass window we sold.
