Tuesday, May 13: Objector, "Toxic Storm"
By 1986, Metallica and Slayer had perfected their blueprints to such an extent that there was really nowhere else for thrash proper to go, so over 30 years later a group like Objector could basically get away with the very same approach. To be sure, “Toxic Storm” owed just as much to mid ‘80s Combat and Relativity acts, what with the blitzkrieg dynamics and whiny/snarly vocals, and the Belgian crew didn’t bother pretending they were anything other than a throwback act. But “Toxic Storm” was well-played and perfectly arranged pastiche, and had everything one would want from a simulation of an earlier time.
