After a few days in the neighbourhood of bohemian Boedo i found a really nice place to stay in Barracas in the very south of Buenos Aires.
With the beginning of the 18th century it used to grow as a slave quarter, as well as an area for leather tanneries and abbatoirs. Throughout most of the 19th century, the neighbourhood was home to some of the wealthiest families of the city. However a yellow fever epidemic in the late 19th century forced the upperclass and the area's middle class to relocate to the north of the city, leaving the neighbourhood to become the working-class area that it remains today.
Conquisitor Don Pedro de Mendoza around the corner in Park Lezama. Historians believe it was here where the first, failed attempt to establish Buenos Aires in 1536 took place.
