What is Styx's relationship with Percy in the Marriage of Loyalty?
Ngl Styx did not like her at first.
It was nothing personal, but the river goddess did not understand how this personification of sugary sweetness was going to hold anyone to their oaths.
At best styx thought this meant she woukd be expected to hold others to their oaths on someone elses name, at worse she could foresee gods trying to use this niave goddess to get out of making oaths on her river and being held accountable
Most likely though the goddess would end up relying on fear of her father and mothers wrath to force people into keeping their oaths and vows
But time passes and Styx begins hearing rumours about how Lady Loyalty is so lovely that breaking an oath on her name will turn reality itself against you.
This is bullshit but now Styx is curious so she goes to investigate.
I would like to point out that up until now Styx has never actually met Persedione, merely heard rumours and such.
When the Goddess of Hate finally meets Lady Loyalty she finds herself laughing uncontrollably.
This is their paragon of goodness and virtue?
Oh, Persedione is sweet and kind, loyal beyond fault and caring. But she is a goddess of dualities and for her love to be all encompassing? So too must be her Hate.
Styx looks at this goddess who wears her kindness like a cloak to hide the hate and wrath sown into her bones and knows exactly where the rumours of 'reality itself punishing oath breakers that take her name in vain'.
It's clever.
The goddess in question wont have to deal with gods running to zeus in order to weasel out of their punishments nor the risk of retribution from fools who refuse to shoulder the consequences of theor own actions.
Still giggling at how little the greek pantheon understands its newest goddess, Styx had invited her for tea.
The two ended up good friends much to everyone elses horror as noone else could understand how the two goddesses could get along when they were so contrary in nature.
Styx and Persedione are ride or die for each other and will trade tips on how to punish specific gods.
When Persedione is forced into marriage Styx tells her she'll rip her husband to shreds if he breaks his vows.
The smile Perse gives her is bitter and edged in prophecy as she whispers to her softly that Apollo is too clever to break his vows in anything other then spirit.
Styx feels their marriage vows warp under the weight of Apollos abuse amd rages.
The two goddess of oath are trapped, unable to lash out as Apollo pushes but never truly breaks his vows. Finding more and more loopholes to twist or exploit.
The day Styx feels their marriage vows dissolve is a relief. As one of the few people who knew of the potion Persedion had asked Thanatos for she had been waiting for her friend to join them in the Underworld for centuries.
As Thanatos guides Persediones soul to Erebus, Styx is waiting to greet them at the doors of death.
//: to clarify Perse is gaslight, girlboss gatekeeping anyone stupid enough to break oaths made on her name by gods and mortals alike.
Mortals who break serious oaths intentionally are driven insane, lesser or accidental oathbreakers feel like they're being haunted until they atone.
Gods meanwhile are being psychologically tortured because physical injuries heal, trauma us forever.
Especially for immortals.
