Three years ago today on 10/10, I organized and led the first walk for teens in crisis in Tennessee. The Power of Ten was the culmination to my 3 years of work with a Nashville-based organization called The Oasis Center, who work to provide safety and support to the most vulnerable and displaced youth.
I first began my work with Oasis in 2008, after being touched by an Oasis film. I decided to create my own non-for-profit company, "Patterns by Jamie," with my mission being to make and sell woven bracelets and donate 100% of the profits. While I did succeed in raising a significant amount of funds for Oasis, money was not my motive. Instead, I sought to grant the opportunity to displaced you and teens in my community with the same privileges of education, shelter, and love, that I have been so grateful to have. I simply south to make a difference, an impact, and a change.
In lieu of it being the three year anniversary of The Power of Ten, I wanted to share a short film with you that was made to remember the incredible event.
A little reminder that coming together as a community to promote kindness, care, and support can go a long way, and impact the lives of many.
Thank you to The Oasis Center for making this day possible, you will always have a place near to my heart. I will never forget 10/10/10 and want to thank everyone who came to help, walk, or event donate to such an amazing cause.
